New Early Season General Deer Hunts

So what do you Utah guys think of the new early rifle hunts? Looks like they will start Oct.10th

Will they be better than the regular general season hunts? I've got a pile of general pref points and was looking at the Pine Valley or Paunguitch Lake early hunts. Maybe these won't be as crowded as the general hunt? Just season what the Utah guys' thoughts were on these new hunts?

I might choose one of those hunts myself.

That's what We need with an already Suffering Deer Herd!

One More Hunt!

Let's See?

Archery Hunt!

Muzz Hunt!

Early Rifle Hunt!

Late Rifle Hunt!

Late Muzz Hunt!

Extended Archery Hunt!

JFP!!!

Do You Guys Remember when I Said they should Just Open it year around?

What's The F'N Difference?

Wouldn?t the over the counter elk hunts be running at that same time? Less deer hunters on panguitch. But you'll have elk hunters!!

I'll be hunting it through my dedicated hunter tag this year.

Get ready for change because it's going to happen!

these hunt dates also go along with the general spike elk hunt and general any bull elk hunt so there will be many hunters. I would still go late just for that reason.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-26-18 AT 09:17AM (MST)[p]To be honest this will annihilate the deer herd. Now they have no breaks in between hunting. Hunts solid from mid August til mid nov this is a terrible idea! Less pressure on a rifle hunt will likely equate to more deer killed.

This hunt will be nothing special and I wouldn't burn a bunch of points on it. It's kind of a rough time to find deer on the pine valley. This hunt is only intended to alleviate too much crowding on the regular hunt as this year was absolutely terrible for pressure. I've never seen so many hunters on this unit. It seems like they gave out double the tags.
This hunt will just alleviate that.

I wouldn't burn pts or think this is some special hunt or anything like that.

This will prob push me to hunt the Zion or sw des unit now. As last year was a terrible hunt on the pine valley. Quality is way down. Lots of small bucks! As far as finding big deer it was the worst in prob 8-ten years for me. I'm dedicated and I hunted ALOT but I could not turn up a buck over 150-160 after the second weekend of the archery hunt.

I can't speak for languor has I haven't hunted it since they split the units. This might be beneficial up there but I think this will be hard for the pine valley unit.

I agree with Elkass on this one, may as well just hunt the damn things year round. Between the shed hunters, trail cams, archery, early muzz, late muzz and two rifle hunts, they never get a break. I hear a lot of people complain how tough the cow hunts are anymore but it's no damn wonder when every time they poke their heads out between August and February someone sends lead.

You forgot scouting and dogging and videoing them all year long!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-26-18 AT 05:34PM (MST)[p]For those of you who haven't quite got around to actually reading the Application Guidebook even after a day and a half into the application period:

https://wildlife.utah.gov/guidebooks/2018_pdfs/200_biggameapp.pdf
(page 39)

Note: There are only 7 early hunts scheduled and Panguitch Lake ISN'T one of them. (Your favorite unit may not be either.) Also remember that the number of Early Season General Deer Hunt tags are taken out of the recommended unit totals which haven't even been recommended yet. We have no idea even how many early tags/hunters that will be in any unit, but the tag numbers would be the same with or without the early hunt.

Why these units? Because all of them are over the buck to doe ratios and most are also over the population objectives. And they are all "overcrowded", whatever that means.

Edited: I have a question for those of you who seem so worried about it. Where were you when the RAC's and Wildlife Board were making this decision?

I'm dedicated as well. Its a bit disingenuous to beef about it, when we have nearly about 2 months to hunt deer.

EFA,
I know where I was during the meetings.
I was cheering from the sidelines.
I personally think these hunts are a great idea.

Me too! Imagine that.

I agree with PETA, I think you will still have a few general season spike hunters running around up there with you.
