Where would you apply with 8 points?

Hey guys. I have a good friend of mine that has 8 points in Utah for LE Elk. He wants to go Rifle or Smoke Pole and his target is 350 or better. Is there an area that he has a chance of drawing? Is there a website that shows draw odds to points? I was thinking Wastach or Manti? Would love to hunt Books or Monroe but I asume many more points are needed. Thank You!

Toprut is a good one. He likely has a ways to go with only 8 points.

I'm not a Utah expert but with only 8 points if he wants to hunt soon he may want to get a bow and start practicing and apply for the Wasatch. Big unit with lots of elk and some nice bulls. 320 a good goal 350 you have your work cut out for you. Otherwise patience is a virtue. I've hunted it once and would be willing to help.

Go to wild life Utah .gov and look for the big game draw bonus point draw results. Print them out and start studying. Most muzzle loader hunts your going to need a few more points for a guaranteed draw.

He's a third of the way there, but you always have the random. 350s are very tough and it seems that's everybody's benchmark. I think the better question is what guide to go with. Better to have the best guide on a good unit then DIY on the best unit. If your guy is DIY only that's a tall order...does happen a lot...but can't bet on it.

8 points isn't going to get you very far in the muzzy game. About 54 years away from being in the bonus point pool for Monroe.

Wasatch would be his best odds of drawing. About 7%. Other than some of the norther cache units

Only way I see him having both a chance of drawing and a chance at a good bull.

Resident or nonresident? That makes a huge difference. NR, it will be a long time before a unit with a good chance of a 350" bull is within reach. Toprut.com is the best resource for finding the number of points required to draw.
