Honest assessment of what you'd do with 18 pts for bison. Wait for Henries or BookCliffs wild horse unit?

I've heard Wild Horse unit is a crap shoot and of conflicts with tribal hunters.

It's definitely a crapshoot this year was terrible. There was no snow to bring them off the tribe and the ones that did the tribe was trying to chase them back. I help a guy get one,he hunted every weekend after thanksgiving and the last 10 days of the hunt and finally killed the 3rd to last day. I live in the Basin and 3 or 4 years ago I would have said hell yes. But after this year and what the tribe is doing I would think real hard.Just remember no snow no Buffalo and that's hard to know when the hunt starts in August or September.Don?t get me wrong we seen Buffalo almost every day but they were the same ones from the week before and all cows and yearlings. The last week they were shooting them. One guy had burned 21 points and in January still hadn't seen a Buffalo

Arns is correct it was terrible this year I was told only 2 bison got killed out of 20 something tags I would go for the henrys

Had a Friend tell me the Tribe was Pushing them back in to deeper Feathered Territory!

Who was you Helping arns?

Bess he was a guy out of Lehi that's is a good friend of really good friend of mine.Next time I see you I will tell you who he is.He worked his AZZ off and finally killed a nice bull on the Ouray side and had Flying J outfitters haul him out.We stayed on the Nine Mile side when he came out hunting. There was a few on this side but most of them were on the Ouray side down on the river, hard as hell to see and hunt.

Thanks arns!

Alot of People Think these are Easy Hunts!

And they can be!

But they can be DAMN Tough as Well!

We Seen Some Damn Tough Buff Huntin on the Henries this year as Well!

The book cliffs hunt down on winter ridge, moon ridge and steer ridge is a different animal it's a lot better than wild horse bench but it takes at least 21or 22 points.3 or 4 years ago we had a lot of snow and there was 150 head on wild horse unit. This year with no snow we seen maybe 20 or 30

I should have payed a little better attention to the OP... I agree totally with what arns said...

We had my dad on the Henry?s late bull hunt. We couldn't get him on a bull. He is 81 years old with one point from max. He was guaranteed the late hunt. So we put him in for that. At his age and Heath problems. We felt we had to pull the trigger. We hired a guide to help us. One of the best on the unit. But with the warmer weather and dusty road conditions. We also underestimated the amount of people on the roads looking at deer after Thanksgiving. We wanted to get him back after the thanksgiving weekend. But he was to sore and tired to finish the last few days. He did get a shot on four bulls we found. But it was a little further shot the we wanted to take. One shot a little low and they left the country. The weather can be your friend if you get any. Good luck on your choice. You make the decision from what I and others have said.
