2018 Permit Proposals Numbers

Crazy that that they keep giving more bull tags for the wasatch....

The doe deer are in trouble this year in many new places from the looks of things

Can't believe the number of buff tags recommended for the books. Is there really that many of them out there?

More cow moose tags are always good.

Weren't they gonna start female sheep hunts this year?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-17-18 AT 07:17PM (MST)[p]I saw that Wasatch elk quota as well and thought the same thing!

I agree on the Wasatch elk numbers, unbelievable!

WTF?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-19-18 AT 01:24PM (MST)[p]They want to cut the number of limited entry deer tags from 1191 to 1153?!
But did they cut the number of tags available at the expo?:/
I thought SFW was helping our deer herds. Can?t blame it on the winter cuz we didn't have one

Actually, almost all the LEs increased or stayed the same.
Only the North Slope took a big hit, which is OK since it has gone undersubscribed anyway.
It's the system the DWR uses that's holding down giving out more LE tags. The general hunts are managed for either a 15-17 or a 18-20 B/D ratio but for some stupid reason, the LEs are managed at 25-35 B/D ratio. Why not do something like a 28-30 B/D ratio for LEs. That way, more tags could be given out and we could slow down the point creep a little.

(Get ready for change because it's going to happen!)

Ive looked for a breakdown per unit/hunt for these proposed tag numbers. But haven't had any luck. Can someone share
thanks

9,000 deer tags on 4/5/6, haha that's funny. Hammer that Davis county herd!! I sure would like to see their numbers if they took out the Deseret, hell canyon, guildersleve, Jacobs creek, hardscrabble, east canyon cwmu, along with some of the other prime private parcels that account for most of the unit. Unbelievable

Doesn't that tag also cover Chalk Creek/Coalville area? Lots of Bucks up there.

Yes it does cover the chalk creek/coalville area, you made my point for me. That portion of the unit is nearly all private property.

Because of the geography, boundaries, private property, and level of willingness to hike/access, that unit is hardly hammered. I know guys who are willing who get nice mature bucks off the public there year after year after year.

Yep, nobody hikes further, hunts harder, scouts more, better optics, longer rifles, scoped muzzleloader, faster bows, longer seasons, lighter gear, google earth, on x maps, Youtube, instagram. Yep... none of those trends are gaining ground and getting stronger. My bad 1911, your right, keep upping the tags. Only lived in and hunted the unit my entire life, but what the hell would I know? Never said there isn't and won't always be a couple giants around, but this is one area where the buck quality has nose dived since the micro management, and I am a huge fan of micro units. But you can't possibly think that is what the DWR is doing in this case. The Deseret deer are not part of the herd in city creek, and the Farmington canyon deer aren't part of the herd in coalville. So why in the hell are you going to make one unit and call it 4/5/6 that are for the ?most part? different herds of deer, instead of actually having 3 separate units 4-5-6? Makes no sense other than the DWR and every other tom, #####, or harry knows 4 & 6 are almost entirely private. Hmm, interesting? Maybe it's because there is no way in hell they could justify 9,000 tags in unit 5, where the vast majority of people are hunting. But if they get sneakie, make the unit appear huge, and pump up the numbers because the surrounding ranches in the region are world class (Ensign/Deseret/ect) than surely they can justify the tag numbers, and make more $$. All I am getting at is the estimated deer population, buck to doe ratio?s, and success rates would look entirely different if you separated these areas into there own units and manage them as such, rather then bundle them together.
