Nine Mile Anthro-Myton Bench Antelope

Back In February I figured I'd throw my points in and try to draw an
antelope tag! I've never hunted them but my main goal was to take my father with me for a fun and less physical hunt as we may not have many more hunts together. Life has been tough since last October and even more tough this last month. When I saw that I drew this tag I was excited and hopeful for some better times!

My dad found out that he has Cancer last month and is battling it right now with both Chemo and Radiation treatments. Opening day of this hunt happens to be his 73rd birthday! Just hoping and praying for his healing and the opportunity to share some time hunting together again. These last 7 months have been something out of a horror movie for our family. Most wouldn't believe it if I told them, but I know God has us in his hands. Just thought I'd share with the hunting community and a few prayers would be great.

Thanks Guys!

thoughts and prayers are with you Mikey take care of your dad those times are hard to replace.

Good luck on your hunt I have applied for antelope for 30 years and haven't drawn a tag yet. So maybe luck is on your side.

Mikey I wish you and your dad well and my thoughts are with you... when the hunt gets closer send me a PM and I can point in some directions...

Sorry to hear about your Dad, hopefully all goes well.

I'm out on the Myton Bench frequently. Last week just driving down the road that goes to the green river I bet I seen at least 10 bucks. A couple had some good mass and length.

Hope everything turns around for you. I am sure you will get some good advice on this site. I happened to be in that unit in November last year and saw a few bucks, no monsters, but one caught my attention (probably mid 70s). They were a bit nervous, so I would recommend being ready to shoot when you see a shooter. I would just drive around and glass, I am sure you will find a decent buck. I would stay in Roosevelt.

Thanks guys for the kind words and replies. It lifts my spirits to see each one. I've never had my faith tested to this point, but I know my Dad is a tough man and I'm having faith that things will work out.

One of the first hunts my dad took me on almost 30 years ago! The size of the buck doesn't compare to the memories of that trip.

RE: Nine Mile Anthro-Myton Bench Antelope------- UPDATE---------

Dad has gone through his weeks of Chemo and Radiation. He has a few weeks off and then just two different days of treatment before our trip! We will know the week after we get back if the treatment has helped or not. He has been feeling better and is excited for the hunt even though he is still very weak. Any ideas on a good location to stay in a hotel type place that would be close to hunting each morning? From my research it looks like there are a lot of roads and country to glass. Dad will help me glass and then watch from the truck when I get out and stalk. Any suggestions and tips would be greatly appreciated as this is my first time hunting Antelope and it takes years here in Ca to get drawn.
Thanks all and God Bless!

Best of luck to you and mostly to your dad!

Your hunting info request made me think of my own father, who's been gone since 1989. It also made be think of an old bud who had that tag years ago but he's gone too so I can't help with hunt info but I can say to hang in there. Life's not "fair" but it's still pretty cool!

Wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and best wishes. I had a great time and dad was able to make the trip but wasn't able to make the hunt that morning as he is still very weak.

Ended up with this great buck and a ton of amazing memories. I believe he will score in the mid 70's as he has a lot of mass, but score wasn't a big deal for me. I was able to shoot him on my dad's 73rd birthday!

Thanks so much to Southslope82 for hooking me up with his brother and Tye. You guys made this trip amazing for us!

Congratulations. That's an outstanding heavy old antelope.
Even more awesome, your Dad was able to be a part.
Most of us got started in the outdoors while following our boyhood heroes.
Best wishes to yours!
