Hey guys i am on my last of the three years on the dedicated tag for pinevally. i was able to make it out a bit in 2016 on both archery where we saw several deer but on rifle the deer were out of the area. I talked to a few guys who said the deer in those areas move south around the muzzleloader hunt. I wasnt able to hunt 2017 do to me being in school in florida. Anyways ive saved some money to make it back for the rifle hunt this october and im just looking to make the money and trip out worth it. Im not looking for any honey holes of anybody's just looking to get some ideas of areas to check out while im back, and a little direction in where to start my hunt. Thanks in advance everyone! And best of luck to all of you on your hunts this year!

It's not anywhere near veyo. Are you hunting the early or late rifle on there this year. What town are you planning on staying in?

Vandenberghe lane might be good on the late season muzzy hunt but I wouldn't spend a lot of time there unless you want a last day meet buck.
(Get ready for change because it's going to happen!)

I am getting there for the late rifle season this year. And i'm just trying to figure out where to head out to to start the hunt off but as of now im planning on camping either out towards motoqua or east of the highway up along the pine valley mountains.

Overrated unit. For some reason everyone is on it because a couple big bucks got shot during late muzz. But it's avg unit. And everyone thinks it's the pauns. I'd just go out shoot the first 3 pt you find. I'm switching to panguitxh. Easier to draw and just as good of bucks.

I would focus on the area around Motoqua since there will definitely be deer in that area. You might also look at the Shoal creek road area west of Veyo. There is a lot of country but you should see deer. I haven't hunted that area for a few years but there was always deer in that area. There will also be a lot of people in the same areas so make sure you wear your orange. I'm not sure how the early rifle hunt will affect it this year but you should have no problem finding the Deer west and south of Veyo. Like ox said the unit is a little overrated but there is always a chance you can get lucky and run into a good buck.

North of Gardner peak is where the current fire is and it looks likely the fire is going to make its way to the top of Gardner in the days to come.

The fire is pushing uphill and south at night when the wind dies down and during the day the wind tries to push it to the northeast.

This fire may get contained but I will not be surprised if it's not even out before it snows unless we get some huge rain right on it.

Rencher And North maybe okay this fall depending how the coming days go.
