Nine Mile Muzzleloader question

My son drew a late season muzzle loader deer tag for the Nine Mile unit. He has been researching and scouting areas to hunt. I was wondering if anyone has information that would steer him in the right direction. Best places or roads to enter the unit, good transition routes, places to camp late in the year, areas near private ground that may hold deer late in the year, etc. He just needs a little help knowing where to start. Anyone with knowledge of the unit that would be willing to help would be greatly appreciated.

I am curious as to why your boy applied for this hunt?

He was searching for units he could draw with the points he had. A late season muzzle loader hunt excited him. He heard that there were some good bucks killed. I told him not to get frustrated when he doesn't see many deer when scouting in summer and early fall but he's starting to have the frustration creep in. We're trying to learn the area, and hopefully when it comes closer to the hunt we can start finding a few animals. He wants to start putting in for elk and didn't want to wait for enough points to draw one of the premier deer units.

RE: Nine Mile Muzzleloader question for

I'm not sure what the boundaries are for that hunt, but if they are the same as the gray canyon sheep hunt, then you can pm me. I spent a lot of October and November there last year. Didn't see a lot of deer, but did see a couple and a few decent ones.

RE: Nine Mile Muzzleloader question for

I wouldn't recommend that hunt for anyone unless they have some private property access lined up before hand. Not a lot of good, accessible public land down there.

There?s a reason why some of these units are so easy to draw tags for... I wish people would think about what those reasons might be, before they apply for the tag
