Utah Draw Question

I have a general draw question about the difference between Bonus and preference points.

Am I able to put in for both General season deer and limited entry deer?

Example- I put in for a general season Deer archery hunt. And then the same day apply for a limited entry deer hunt? Is that the design of the system?

Will putting in for a general season hunt and getting drawn knock you out of the drawing for limited entry per bag limits?

Thanks,

Ben

Yes you can. I have 15 LE deer points and have been applying for the Paunsagaunt. I have also had a general season tag every year.

Thanks for the reply.

So I can go ahead and put in for my limited entry today and then wait for the other guys to put in on a group tag for general?

How many points do you think it take for a non resident for limited entry?

I am still unclear about the answer to his second question? Can you draw both tags and hunt 2 deer in one year (one general and one LE)?

In answer to his last question:

It could take you 0 to 25 points to draw an LE tag, or you could never draw one. I am a NR and have 13 points.

My recollection is you cannot draw both deer tags in the same year. They draw LE first, if you get LE deer then you are taken out of the general draw, but get a preference point.

It doesn't matter which order you apply for them, the draw goes by a certain order that is outlined in the regs.

I think you can draw LE for species other than deer, and still be in the deer general draw.

Thank you, that answers my second question. I wasn't sure about the order of the draw and if drawing a tag for one, would knock you out of the other.

It's explained on p14 in the regs, it is a bit confusing. The draw order is also on p14, right hand side, not shown in this pic.

Understand the drawing order Utah Admin. Rule R657-62-18 A better understanding of the drawing order may affect which permits you decide to apply for. Big game permits are drawn in the following order:
? First?Buck deer (multi-season premium limited-entry, premium limited-entry, multi-season limited-entry, limited-entry, CWMU, cactus and management buck deer)
? Second?Bull elk (multi-season limitedentry, limited-entry and CWMU)
? Third?Buck pronghorn (limited-entry and CWMU)
? Fourth?Once-in-a-lifetime permits
? Fifth?General buck deer (Lifetime License holders)
? Sixth?General buck deer (Dedicated Hunters)
? Seventh?General buck deer (youth)
? Eighth?General buck deer
? Last?Youth any bull elk Because of the order in which permits are drawn, you will not be included in the drawing for a once-in-a-lifetime permit if you draw any of the following permits:
? Buck deer (multi-season premium limited-entry, premium limited-entry, multi-season limited-entry, limited-entry, CWMU, cactus or management buck deer)
? Bull elk (multi-season limited-entry, limited-entry or CWMU)
? Buck pronghorn (limited-entry or CWMU) For more information, please visit wildlife.utah.gov/drawings.
