Illinois Question unhunted land going to waste!

Here's my terrible situation, my boss who has way to much money has a couple hundred acres in Clark Co IL. I asked him what was on it and he said it's mostly just waste land with trees and ##### on it but a few crop fields here and there. He leases out the crops and noone has hunted it ( supposedly) for 10-15 yrs. I'm betting the locals hunt the hell out of it if it's any good and they know it's an absentee owner. I asked for my bonus in terms of hunting access not cash and he said ok. Now what?? How good of bucks live in Clark co.? Are all tags on a draw? can you hunt archery and rifle or just one? When is the rut - during which season? Does anyone have the link to the F&G Dept there.? I can't wait to give it a try next year!

I'm from n-cent co. so it's quite a drive to go scout, about as far east as you can be and still be in Il. Looks like quite a few B&C entries from that county. My boss doesn't know squat except there are deer there and he's happy I want to hunt instead of $. I need to order a brochure for starters and get familiar with the basics of Il. He says there is mostly timber with alfalfa for crops.

Archery tags for NR are done by phone. They consider it a lottery but everyone has gotten tags in the past with left overs. Just make sure you call during the timeframe. They do have doe only tags over the counter for a very cheap price for the NR too.

Gun tags are shotgun slug, or muzzleloader. There are no rifles allowed for deer in Illinois. This is done by lottery (online) and (I beleive) NR can not get in the first drawing but can get in the others.

Every county has a chance to get a good buck it just depends on what kind of pressure, and land you have to hunt. Monsters aren't around every corner but some nice bucks can be found.

Only drawback for a NR in Illinois is the cost of the tag is getting crazy..............
