Nebraska whitetail help

My hunting season is over here in Colorado and I have been wanting to kill a whitetail. Can I get an over the counter tag for this year preferably archery or muzzy? Where is a good area to go that has some good public access with a decent ammount of deer and not too many people? Prefereably on the western part of the state. Thanks

Your best bet is going to be the muzzy season which runs from Dec 1 through the end of the year. Public land is few and far between in this area of Western NE. I am smack in the middle of it all. They just recently opened some new areas around here where I live and a couple of them are on the river bottom which is rare around here as well. Check out www.nebwild.org and www.outdoornebraska.org for information. You would be hunting in the Upper Platte or Plains regions and I am sure there are plenty of tags left at this point.

It's hit and miss really. You would be more apt to get permission with archery or muzzy than you would the rifle. If you just wanted does that up's your chances even better. There are a few places on the N Platte river that are open to the public near Mitchell, NE that I don't think you would have a problem getting does on. I almost hit 7 of them this morning less than half a mile from that property.

Offer to help around the ranch for an afternoon in return, you never know what you might get. N Platte river property is skyrocketing fast, and they are catching on here in NE to the way hunting is going now a days. $ Talks

Private land in western ne used to be easy to access for archers ten years ago. Not so anymore, outfitters and leasing brokers have found the area. Some public land but if it is any good it gets lots of pressure. Wish I could be more help P.M. me if you want to talk specific areas.
