If you had 1 chance to hunt a trophy whitey in IL. What county or unit would you hunt?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-07-10 AT 05:48PM (MST)[p]That's a good question! Pike & the surrounding counties get a lot of attention & well deserved but there's too many hunters for me. I hunt one of the nearby counties & see just as good of bucks.

We hunt Calhoun county every year and see some awesome bucks. If you look at the map it is the little sliver of land between the Mississippi river, and the Illinois river. We hunt with an outfitter that has some awesome farms and charges less than what it takes to buy out of states license in the west. If you need any info let me know.

there is alot of good deer around cook and lake county, northwest of chicago, mchenry county has good deer too.

I've also been hunting counties nearby the "golden triangle" with good results. I just hunt public land and it has taken a while to find hotspots through all the hunters. More each year as they get bumped off their farms due to leasing. As far as outfitters, Pike is good but now overpressured and greatly overpriced. You will pay more just due to the name. Look to surrounding nearby counties for the best value. Get a good referrel.
