Well after a long season here in the NC mountains and feeling like I wasn't going to shoot a buck this year I finally got a shot at one yesterday. Not the giant I was hoping for but it is the biggest buck I've had an opportunity to shoot this year and our season closes Saturday so I pulled the trigger!

What a nice buck! Congratulations! Beautiful photograph too!

it's not a 40 incher but it's closer than the last 40 incher you posted....

I've only hunted Mulies but that is a very classy picture. It's nice to see someone with enough sense to lay the gun down so it's not pointing right at them when the picture is taken. I bet that was one of those rare perfect days.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys!

Everyone that has seen this picture comments on what a good picture it is. I was alone and screwed my camera down on to my stoney point tripod and used the self timer mode to take the pics.

This was actually not a great time to be out. I had this day off work, it was Monday Dec 27, for Christmas holiday and when I got up to go out at 5:30am it was 15 degrees and the wind was howling. The weather online said we would have 50mph gusts through the day. We have had to deal with unusually high winds most of the deer season this year.

So I didn't go out until lunch time, shot the buck at 2:30pm about 1/2 mile behind my house. He was up feeding in a hollow protected somewhat from the wind and with plenty of sun shining in.

Its neat to be able to hunt from home.

You can't kill 'em from the easy chair... good weather or bad weather, it pays to put the time in when you can, congrats on your deer!
