a radio station this am said that montana is experiencing a huge die off of whitetail due to blue tonge . they said thousands of deer have recently died any one know anything about rather its true or not they talked about midges causing the disease outbreak

i read something like 90 percent got killed off. now that is a lot of deer

A friend went doe hunting this last fall and the numbers for all deer were way down. It will take years to build the herd back up in Eastern MT. This mild winter should help though.

EHD (epizootic hemorrhagic disease) has been blamed for most of the whitetail die off in the Northern Plains. Eastern Montana has been hit the hardest with a 90% estimated die off.

I know a high fence operation here in east Texas whose imported herd of northern deer (Wisconsin I believe) was hit hard also.It didnt affect his local genetics, thank God.The caretaker tells me the southern whitetail arent susceptible to it.

Hunt around Fairview Mt before a outbreak and the hunting was outstanding,You could buy doe tags at the courthouse then a couple of years later after a blue tougue outbreak we couldn't find a deer worth shooting, That is one wicked diease for whitetail.
