pics and thoughts of no-till food plots

My thoughts are that they probably work poor at best. I've never actually tried them but I have planted many foodplots. All seeds vary in planting conditions but good seed to soil contact is always best. In my mind, it would be best to work the soil in some way before planting. Even if you used a harrow or tiller, just something to make a decent seed bed even if it's not that deep.

No-Till is a very good way to grow corn, soybeans, and a few other things with the proper soil temp, seed variety, and if your willing to spend some money on chemicals for weed control. We have a cash crop operation in Wisconsin and have done no-till in just about every situation you can think of almost all of them work. If you have an exact spot and know what you want to plant let me know what it all is and I can tell you pretty close to what you would need to do to make it work.

Keep in mind that people considering the use of no-till food plots generally do so because they either don't have equipment or can't get it to the area where they want the plot. I'm familiar with no till planting, but not no-till planting by broadcasting.

There are still real options for broadcast seeding, like winter wheat as long as you have contact with the ground and some moisture it will grow and the deer love it all fall and winter.
