Killed this buck the morning of nov. 7th. Got to my stand before daylight and had just sat down and heard a deer coming, it was a nice buck, don't know how many points he had but he looked good in the moonlight. Just before sunup, I did some rattling and a nice 9 point came in ( 135 to 140 ) I was tempted but let him go. About 20 min later the 13 I'd been waiting for came by below and behind me. Walked into one of my shooting lanes and shot him at 20 yards. Deer went about 40 yards and stopped and started coughing, fell right there. He grosses 171 5/8s. Been in a tree stand almost every morning and every afternoon, sit till 11, go home and eat then back out at 2. Out west your legs and lungs get sore, here your butt gets sore:d. I'm going to post the pics of him in order, summer, fall, then the kill pics

Neighbor put the corn down to try and hold him in our area, told him it wouldn't work---it didn't

Hate to say it but I mighta scored him low. He's impressive! You've got pics of both and 1 in hand, what's yer score guess?

I'd say between 190 & 200. My neighbor showed him to some whitetail expert in Indiana, he said between 205 & 210. Can't figure out what happened to him. I guess he could have been killed in the sept youth season or early muzzleloader but I thought I would have heard about it. Word would spread fast in this area on a deer that big.

I suspect he's still alive. Hopefully he's around for ya next fall and u can solve the riddle! Congrats again, you killed a goodin!

that is a great buck you got, congrats!
Sure was hoping to see you posing with that monster you have pics of, like DW said, maybe next year :D

There are many things that would be nice to wish for or say but then I would be just like him.

Thanks mtnman,
I got an archery landowner tag so I'm going to hunt that piece of property only and see if I can find him.

U still got a buck tag? There used to b an abandoned farmstead back in mn where we hunted, on a corner with some buildings and overgrown trees. Wasn't much but when a big buck cut out a hot doe that's where he'd push her cause no one had permission to hunt it. Bet old long brows got a place like that nobody goes too and it's just him and his hot doe. Good luck 12pt!

In Iowa you can buy 1 bow buck tag and 1 gun tag for first, second shotgun or late muzzleloader, or you can buy 2 gun tags, 1 for first or second shotgun and late muzzeloader. As a land owner You get a third tag for any season you want but if you pick first shotgun and don't fill your tag you can also hunt second shotgun on the same tag. I almost never get a gun tag. I buy a bow tag and fill it then get a landowner bow tag just so I can relax, continue to hunt and enjoy the rest of the rut. I seldom kill a deer on that second tag.

WOWZERS!! Congrats on a stud of a buck 12point. Buck of a lifetime my friend! Looks like you may need to change your handle to 13point now! :)

Best of luck and hope you can punch that 2nd buck tag with him. He is truly a monster buck that is worth many lifetimes of hunting!

Haven't seen him or heard of anyone getting him. I have a muzzleloader tag now but the last day is the 10th. My guess is he either died of blue tongue or somebody got trigger happy early. Maybe I'll find him while shed hunting in march. Maybe he'll show up next year on the salt lick. Sometimes I wonder if someone put a deer mannequin in front of my camera :D.
