Hey folks I thought I'd share a few photos of a true Giant Axis buck. I took the photos from over 200 yards away so they aren't close ups. This buck was on a piece of property down the road from my home in the Texas hill country. I tried to get the landowner to let me hunt him but he has a strick no hunting policy. The buck lives in a 1100 acre pasture with lots and lots of live oak and juniper so it would have been tough to get on him again. Beautiful animal, and all the Axis experts that I've shared the photo with believe he would be the new world record. Most guys aged him at 14+ years old!
Later folks,

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-15 AT 10:31AM (MST)[p]Holy Cow!!! What a beast. I had know idea they even got that big.

I just got back from the hill country chasing those suckers last week. Never could get on a big one, but I did get a good eating one. This was my second hunt in the hill country in the last few months, and until then, I had no idea there was a such thing as free-ranging axis deer. Now I am completely obsessed with them. It also helps to have a buddy with a ranch down there that gets me access. :)

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-15 AT 10:59AM (MST)[p]I share your passion for free range Axis. Best eating cervid in North America IMHO. I really feel blessed to have been able to photograph such a magnificiant animal! I hunt Axis twice a year and have for many years. I've taken one really exceptional Axis and several really good ones but nothing like this guy. He is a true Monster!!

Yeah, it makes mine look pretty darn small, but I don't care. It's still going on my wall. Too darn pretty not to put on the wall, and tastes too good to pass up.
