I went back to my Kansas whitetail hunting area, this time for turkey which opened last Saturday. Friday evening I was up on this ridge glassing a draw where some really nice mule deer bucks had been entering the hayfield. I was a little early and they were not there yet so I started glassing the area where they usually came from. ( I had put in for a muley permit but did not draw). I found a nice buck at the edge of the winter wheat field about 150 yards away. He was looking very intently away from me into another winter wheat field about 25-30 yards from him. I glasses and glassed but could not see what was holding his attention for so long. Lo and behold a lion walked across the field he was watching. It did not seem interested in him. I got to watch the lion for about 30 seconds. The deer went back to his dinner and I don't have any idea what the lion ate-Ha! I had gotten a medium sized lion on my game camera video last year about 3 miles from this guy. I have never thought of kansas as a place where lions live but they do. There are a ton of coyotes out there this year.
