Broadhead Breaking?

Anyone ever had a broadhead break at the base, just before the threads? Helping a friend track a deer this morning and found his arrow, with a clean break at the base of the broadhead. Almost looked like it was unscrewed until we realized the threads were in the shaft.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-29-18 AT 10:52PM (MST)[p]I would think if it were properly tightened there wouldn't be any chance of movement or torque to do that. Was it one of the mechanicals that has the plastic collar between the ferrule and insert???

I'd say he anchored it solidly in heavy bone and it snapped when the arrow hit brush as the deer ran off. Just a WAG.

Yes, it's happened, not to me, but I've heard of and seen several and mostly at the same spot...Which is the weakest portion of a ferrule...G5 Montecs a while back had a bad batch and it happened...

Some others brands have had a problem over the years...You can over tighten them and cause stress to the area, also if you practice (Which you should!) or shoot a Broadhead league with the same heads wear and tear can occur...Again, it's one of the weak areas on a Broadhead when you look at it over all...

I've also heard of it happening with Rage 2 blades and Muzzy fixed blades but usually a heavy bone or weird angle is involved.

I have seen it happen to another persons broadhead. He suspected the same thing that was mentioned earlier...stuck in a bone and broke off while running.

I shot a buck 2 years ago that had a blue Muzzy broadhead in the top of his shoulder likely from the year before or longer. Only about 1/8" of the threaded part was intact, the rest of the threads must have broke off on impact.
