Has anyone hunted first season 76 in the past couple of years? I finally used my points (14) for a first rifle tag. Finally used points my points and out of the points game. I've called the biologist and no answer from him yet. I just would like to get a little help on what to expect. There will be 4 of us with 2 tags and we will have 4 horses. Can someone please help me out a little. For a non-res it is basically a once in a lifetime hunt. Any info would be great. PM me if you like.

Thanks in advance.

Hey thanks alot, I really appreciate it.

Would you mind if I call you sometime to get some info?

Or send to my email address, [email protected]

info on best way to get into the unit from the east?
how far in from trailhead did you go, many people...stuff like that.

Thanks.

You should have a blast. Smoke pole hunted it last year. In general get off the roads a mile ++ in some harder to reach areas and you should have some space. Can't speak for 1st rifle but I would assume from the bugling I heard that you shouldn't have Trouble hearing them if you move around and work a bit.
Saw elk near love lake, black mountain, ivy creek, rito hondo. The closest place I found to freeze meat was del Norte which is a ways away so I would recommend being prepared to take care of that yourself. The best advice I got was that the elk are spread around the unit and you just have to work to find them. That was spot on.

Directions.......Hwy76 to Denver to 470 to hwy 285 to hwy 112 to hwy 160 to hwy 149.

Hunted that season last year with my brother and we both killed opening day. He kill a 300+ bull. Amazing country and amazing animals. Good Luck!

I'll be there for the Muzzy hunt with a Cow tag. I'll PM you after my hunt and tell you what I'm seeing. I've hunted once before and it's awesome country S T E E P.... be ready for that! Good luck!!
