I also drew this tag. Recently spent the day driving around the area. Got home, turned the tag back in!

I'll put it like this - I did not see enough antelope to make me think that it was a smart move to burn 16 NR points on this hunt.

I grew up in the area and I've rifle hunted the unit twice. The first time took me 7pps to draw, the next took 12pps. I think its a misconception that the trophy quality of an area directly related to the number of points it takes to draw. It's always just supply and demand and I do not believe this unit has the quality or quantity of bucks to warrant spending more than a decades worth of points on it. The only reason that this unit would be considered desirable is the large amounts of public land. Growing up there and spending a ridiculous amount of time out with the animals I saw some good bucks over the years with a handful being really good but I saw very very few exceptional bucks that would be worthy of 10+ pps. Good luck

Thanks for the info, this gives me a good idea about what to expect. It does look like there is plenty of public land.

I didnt start applying for nr antelope in colorado to go trophy hunting and all the points I had I could have had 3 but my choice was tons of public with few tags or hundreds of tags, I chose 81 and needed to fill a gap between elk and deer,It was like an over the counter tag for me, and the success is usually 100%, spoke to 2 different guys that hunted last year that were done 1st thing opening day with mid 70 bucks, I will have 6 days to enjoy a new place,I will have a fishing pole and a shotgun, you wont see my tag available and I wont be disappointed.

I can't imagine a better attitude to have goin in! Good luck wildfin! Best advice I could give is get him skun and on ice as fast as you can! One of my favorite wild meats! Hope you find a goodun!

my antelope hunt in 81 went well I took a buck that tapes just under 77 not including tip to tip or inside spread which i dont believe add to the total his D1s are 6and 3/8 making him better than I expected, there were bucks everywhere and were I sat it was antalope porn In every direction. It was the fun hunt that I had hoped for, also caught my best brown about 20 inch in the canajo river, I would add photos if I had the patience to tackle moving a pic from phone to this site. Also mike from adcock uhaul in alamosa picked me up at the air port with the van I rented froze my antelope meat and droped me back at the air port, were I am from so. ca. they dont roll like that, really great time. cant wait to get back to colorado which will be 3rd season deer in 22.

Sounds like you had a great time and a great goat, congrats!

And I have never caught squat in the river, what did you catch him on?

Glad you got a good one. I also had a fun hunt, shot a smaller one the first day and also caught some nice fish in the river on nymph patterns, nice country down there.
