Deer success

After putting in for a unit and not drawing I was able to pick up a returned tag for archery in a unit I should just apply for every year anyway.

But decided this would be a good opportunity to take my 4 yr old daughter on some spot and stalk muleys.

The weekend before archery season started we saw 15 bucks. This was the best:

My buddy was pretty excited because he had picked up a returned muzzleloader tag. So my first and only weekend to hunt was Labor Day weekend. The busiest of the year it seems like. We did find only one buck to put a stalk of but I could never get a shot. I had him at 40 yards and 20yrds. I never really realized how big he was.(more to come)

So I loaded up my daughter last night and wanted to just find a buck so that she could be apart of it. During our ride up the mountain she said that I could not shoot a boy deer , it needed to be a girl deer. Not sure how she realized I had an either sex tag.

She ended up spotting two does about 50'yards from us(I was trying not to see them). And she told me we needed to shoot one of them. It only took me a split second to decide to take he shot. How often are you going to get an opportunity with your 4 year old daughter to be able to actually have the luck to harvest an animal. We were able to sneak to 30 yards and make a clean kill.

A memory to treasure forever!!!!

We decide to stay up on the mountain since my buddy has a muzzleloader tag for the next morning and go glass and try to find him a decent buck.

Get a call on the radio 30 mins after light that I think we got that one from last week you were going after. Well here he is:

A nice three with some extras. Disappointed I couldn't get him last week but I don't think I would trade it since my daughter wasn't with me. It's the little things. I doubt I will ever shoot a doe again and have for 20 years but it's gonna trade a huge buck to beat this experience with my daughter.

Have seen a lot of stories this year. Hope everyone is having and will have a safe and successful year.
