Deer in Colorado

So I used to be in contact with a guy named Taylor from up in Colorado, he was gonna help me out in drawing a mule deer tag up there , I'm from New Mexico. I lost all the contacts in my phone , and now would like to reach out and ask for any info on purchasing points or what units I should try and draw. I'd prefer a rifle tag but will also settle for an archery tag. I helped this guy out in the Gila units here in N.M. and I do have extensive knowledge in many units for many different species , including the draw odds for the NR POOL. I'd love to help someone here and in hopes get some help in this state for mule deer . No honey holes needed, just info on purchasing points, and which hunts to use them on. Thank you all for your team.

Hey Man, I'm from NM too and live up here in Co now. Probably best to call the DOW and talk to a hunt planner. These guys are really helpful and will walk you through everything and give you suggestions about where to hunt. Colorado DOW is top notch and they will provide you with TONS of info, and get you started.

^^^ I would definitely do what he said. I too am from New Mexico and have hunted deer in Colorado with friends of mine. To obtain a quality deer tag in CO may take a bit of time especially for a NR. The most southern units do hold deer and are relatively quick to draw between 2-4 years but don't be expecting great bucks everywhere but rather a bunch of smaller bucks with the occasional decent buck. That was our mistake when we finally drew 2 tags last year and finished the hunt with two small 3x3s. I would start saving up points since now and hopefully draw a decent tag one of these years. Or... buy a LO vouchers tag which I think are ridiculously overpriced in my opinion. Unfortunately for me CO deer is a bit out of my price range when you add up everything in the end including the years/points so I'll stick with NM's struggling deer herd for now.

As far as I'm concerned Colorados bad deer hunts are N.M. good ones so to speak. I have a buddy who lives there and lost contact with a fella I helped in the Gila who lives there , and from what I gather from them is archery deer in southern units are not terribly hard to draw and they have seen so big deer, I have horses and primarily hunt wilderness and I was told the early archery would be good. I also hear that a guy can draw a good tag after accumulating 4-5 points. Guess it boils down to a person's perspective on what good is.
