How's the 3rd season going? Due to my hunting partner/father in laws house being destroyed by a fire my whole hunt for changed up. I am now going solo and leaving Monday morning to head over to Colorado. Just wondering if Any pre rutting starting up? Any big boys poking there heads out and are they moving low?
 
Nothing happening near me. Still seeing groups of 10-20 does and not a single buck with them. Have seen a couple of mature bucks by themselves on private ranches that were still feeding two hours after daylight. Also seeing groups of 2 1/2 year olds running together and doing a little sparring.
 
I hunted 62 over the weekend. Saw a bunch of deer but all does and forkies. Rut doesn't seem to have started yet.
 
Mid range bucks all over the does where I'm at. They are already dumb and couldn't care less about anything.
I passed up many many 150-170" bucks this weekend. No big ones yet.
 
Hi Coloradoman,

Curious to the elevation of the bucks compared to their critical winter range? Are they at the bottom or up higher in the transition areas?

Reports I am getting is that they are in the transition areas, not yet with does. I have see pics a couple really nice bucks taken, both in transition areas.
 
seen one little buck sniff a doe monday. Most does are alone, if a buck is with them, its a forky or spike.
90% of bucks are still in bachelor groups as of monday, some light sparring going on.

97 bucks seen sat-mon and 2 forkies in camp tues morning.
