Well An epic deer season for myself is down to just 4 short days. Thus far I have spent right at 40 days in the field put on a little over 4,000 miles on the truck. I have been blessed with a ton of fun, a great family experience and of course a surprising victory by the Don. I spent 19 hours sitting in front of the local sporting goods store waiting for the leftovers to go on sale and received a tag for the unit I grew up hunting in while holding onto my points.

As a little teaser here is the buck I let walk on Tuesday night. He would have been tempting but a 3x4... Come on now. I still hope I can find better. Since the rut is picking up a little I am going to pack the bow for a little bit and see if I can not stick a good buck on a rifle hunt with a bow...

Here is my little teaser...

Oh by the way, I was able to help several other MMers out on hunts. Including watching a great guy take a very decent 4x4. Also helped one of my better friends on his hunt. this morning he took a great mature buck for his second muley ever...

This was the one taken by a MMer on Tuesday Morning. I had passed on this buck a couple of mornings and when we found him in the same canyon chasing a doe, the game was over right at legal light.

Like mentioned passed this buck that same evening... Just looking for a little bigger.

My buddy who had only his second Mule Deer tag ever went in this morning looking for the buck above... As a result he found this old battle buck. PSlit ear scar faced.... A very cool buck Named the trump buck!!!

Like I said a great year and I have 4 more days. Wall tent sleeping here I come...

See you all on Monday. God Bless and thank you to all our veterans...

I have 2-3 people trying to convince I need to shoot the buck above... What do you say? I got a nice big surprise buck in WY that as a clean 4 with eye guards went 181...

Shoot or do not shoot? Score as he stands? Score if he was a matching 4?

I know a lot of people have struggled big time this year with weather, but I have managed to find a few options...

Keep hunting. 4 days is a ton of time... and Sunday will be the best.

If you really wanted that buck, it would be dead already....

Great bucks and congrats to the hunters!! Hope you get the buck your looking for in the next few days. Keep us posted.

+1, you got a lot of time. Ide probably be just rolling in now if I had a 3rd season tag.

You also shot a stud of a 180+ buck this year. So chalk that up as money in the bank, and roll the dice to see what you can come across the last 4 days of the season.

The buck your thinking about is a 175-176 type buck. Had he grown a G3 on his left side he would be in the mid 180's. But if you don't see any bucks larger than him, and he's around on Sunday afternoon, take him!

Goodluck out there!

Good luck,
you already passed him so don't, give yourself a chance. If you see him sunday afternoon again sure. I'd wait as long as possible.
Hope its a monster you get :)

I agree with the above posts, you already killed a great buck this season. I'd hold out for a few more days and try to turn up a slug.

Good luck!

The 3x4 is a lower 160's buck, would of been close to 170 had he been a 4x4. Hold out, its only getting better, the bucks are starting to chase the does, and a slob might get dumb and come out at the wrong time. Stick it out.

Kill the 3x4!!

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

Yes, I did, JakeH. My buck was the first pic on the post. I haven't had time to write up the story yet. I am happy with him considering what we were seeing. I took the pic of that 3x4 and was REALLY trying to get him killed. Elks passed on him.

Well the season ended. I lost count of the number of bucks I saw. Sadly all were not what I was looking for, the big 3x2 above was by far the most mature and best framed buck we saw. the tall 3x4 I saw again on Thursday morning and after looking at the pic and seeing him again, he was a good buck. I would guess a younger buck with good potential.

Friday night my 6 year old joined me in camp and hunted with us on Saturday. He was the judge for all deer. He told me pass on several basket 3 and 4 points. After lunch he commented that I should not fill my tag so that we can be back again next weekend. After explaining to him that Sunday was it, his tone had changed. Still that afternoon we saw close to 15 bucks and he told me to pass until last light we spotted a big 2x2 that earlier in the year I said I would kill as a cull buck. He was a 3 year old buck maybe 4.

At last light we spotted the buck on a pipeline running next to the road. We jumped out really fast and only seen his butt, no shot.

As we were out, another buddy with his 13 year old daughter and his 10 year old son pulled up. In their jeep. With about 5 minutes of light left we thought the 2 point buck walked out 40 yards from the jeep. Same frame and size etc. The 13 year old girl sounded off first, shoot it, then my boy, then the 11 year old. So I filled my tag on little buck. Ended up being a 20" wide 3x3. The kids were all excited. The girls was using her cellphone light to follow the blood trail, and the 11 year old spotted the buck on the ground in a pile of trees.

Will add a picture later.

There were tons of little buck, but highs in the 60s, no weather, no snow, made for the hardest 3rd season I have ever seen.

In all I have spent 44 days in the field on big game with a tag in my pocket. It was great to have my family in tow for all but 10 of those days.

My 6 year old is already asking about a Coyote hunt and my daughter is already preparing for our annual Christmas Rabbit Hunt and Dinner.

Thanks for the play-by-play. Your family hunt was an excellent way to spend a difficult season. Looks like those out for 4th season up north may see some snow. Million $ idea: camo sunscreen.
