Predator Mgmt Studies in need of support

LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-16 AT 04:27PM (MST)[p]I don't know about you but where I hunt, I can see mountain lion tracks almost every time out. I have even seen two lions while deer hunting and I am seeing far less deer than I did just a few years ago. I tend to simplify things but if every adult lion kills a deer a week, that surely puts a big dent in the deer population recovery.

The article linked below explains what we are up against with the antis and these are the folks writing emails and attending meetings.

These predator studies are an important step in restoring mule deer numbers in Colorado. Don't let the "manage by emotion" crowd dictate how we manage deer in this state. If it was up to them, we would never kill a mountain lion or a bear. Take 5 minutes and send the email.

Anyone who would like to comment in support of the proposed predator studies should do so via email by Dec 10. Send emails to: [email protected]

LAST EDITED ON Dec-06-16 AT 05:55PM (MST)[p]A letter of support for the predator study has been sent.

Let's blow this thing out of the water. Everyone that sends an email of support, post here. I will follow tailchaser and say mine was sent as well.

Keep in mind your email can be very brief even one sentence such as: I am writing to express my support for the proposed predator management studies because I believe in science-based wildlife management.

That sums up my email very well too.

So any update on this? I have sent several emails. however this story broke in September.

The meeting we had locally the researcher and regional director flat out told the Public (specifically the Sierra Club and HSUS) that the meeting was to tell them what was going to happen and since it was happening on private land in cooperation with the Federal Wildlife Services, there was no stopping it.

As for the Leadville area study. I am not familiar with the study. I can say the Rifle area study is going to be great.

Sent in my letter of support, as a NR.

No excuses guys, if you hunt or have hunted or even plan to hunt Colorado, and care for its wildlife, then send a short email in support of this predator management study to the email contact provided above, it takes 2 minutes. This goes for residents and non-residents alike.

Replied and let them know even if a deadline was missed that this would be a beneficial idea moving forward.
Automatic reply said my comments would be shared.

I wish I could be there.... I would sure love to ruffle their feathers!

I spoke with Chuck who is heading up the study over here... He is expecting a circus!
I am pretty certain that the Comissioners will support the plans. However I will not be surprised if the idiots try to bring it to Court!

A total of 42 members of the public testified, 17 in support of the plans and 25 opposed. The Commission approved the plans unanimously.

Thanks Oak. I am glad we had people there...

I was able to listen to some of the testimony on lunch break.

It really seemed like the antis were missing the mark on the proposed plan/studies. They didn ot realize that these were meant to provide data on the issue and not be a fix to the problem of struggling mule deer. They did not seem to separate the idea that this was a research project meant to look at outcomes.

I was kind of surprised that they were all for habitat improvement etc.

I also got a kick out of them trying to blame climate change.

Since you were present were there any big ideas or big points that were made that will help us in our future fights?

Did the lawyers make any indication of how they would challenge the fight in the court?

I listened to the last 30 minutes and the vote. I only heard what I believe were a couple of CP&W guys present their final thoughts. I had the sense this was going to be approved no matter what the opponents said or presented as the CP&W committee members know this is an important and necessary study. Vote went fast, next words were about where lunch was going to be served.

I wasn't there, but I listened to the entire 4.5 hours. Nothing enlightening. After discussing their perceived deficiencies in the proposals, the WEG attorney did say that they felt that it left the proposals "vulnerable to challenge," which likely means they will litigate.
