I have 17 non-resident preference points going into the draw this year. Thinking of trying to use them up this year. I was thinking of applying for the Unit 2 muzzy tag or 3rd season rifle unit 61. Any other areas I should consider. Any chance of drawing a decent late season tag anywhere. Like to get on a 170 class deer.

I would look at the late seasons and cross the unit 2 muzzy off the list. There are some good bucks but unless you really know unit 2 or have specifics on a buck of a lifetime you will not like what you see for deer in unit 2. The only reason to consider a unit 2 deer tag is to hunt and enjoy the elk rut.

This is my perception too. I spend quite a bit of time in 61, and for the life of me, I can't understand why there is such demand for the tags. I've rarely seen even an above-average buck. I actually feel like 62 is a better Deer unit. Just my .02

Last year, it took NR's 19 points to draw that tag.

Wow I drew that hunt with 7 points the first year they had the 4th season hunt I knew it went way up didn't know that much.

I hunted Unit 2 for elk a few years ago and would love to hunt the area again. Funny you mention this since it did cross my mind as a way to get back in the area. I am still trying to determine if there even is a Unit 2 muzzy tag for NR. I ws looking at the stats from 2016 and could not see one.

There is a muzzy hunt for deer in unit 2. The NR drew the tag with 10 points last year.

You may want to keep winterkill and other factors in mind. I think I remember hearing that the 2/201 area had spotty winterkill last year? I know the units over the border in Wyo aren't doing as well as a few years ago. There's still a lot of winter left. Things can change dramatically with 1 bad winter!
