Hello all I'm looking into colorado this year for deer can anyone tell me what unit 74 is like? Just looking for general information any help would be great. Thank you
 
Unit 74 is steep, rugged, shale, high altitude, tough, brutal. If it snows, which is does often and early, it is even tougher to hike the steep and rugged country and the elk and deer move down a few thousand feet to private land anyway. There is a reason it takes a boatload of points to draw the early rifle and muzzleloader deer tags because that is the best time to hunt it. After the snow hits, its all over. Its a tough unit to hunt effectively.

And regular rifle seasons can be tough. So I agree that archery muzzy and early rifle is the way to go. Lots of points to draw early rifle but not archery or muzzy. Again, don't expect to see lots of deer but if you apply LOTS of boot leather above timberline you can see a decent buck. Definitely tough to hunt and you could go home with tag soup. But the country is georgeous
