Colorado Mule Deer point creep advice

I am a non-resident and have been building point for deer and elk in Colorado and several other states. I live in north Idaho, and hunt on great OTC archery elk tags, and decent OTC any weapon deer tags at home every year. However if I want to hunt mule deer I have to travel quite a ways south, which I cant afford to do every year.
My out-of-state points strategy has been to apply for the best hunts in multiple states, and only go when I got lucky enough to draw something truly special. I do not have very much money, I can not afford a guide or to make multiple scouting trips. At best I would be able to show up 3-5 days prior to opening day for scouting and stay through the end of the season. Each tag I draw will most likely be a once-in-a-lifetime trip for me.
From what I have been reading about point creep in Colorado and how the draw system works I am wasting my time building points because I will never draw a truly premium tag in my lifetime. Everyone seems to be of the opinion that you should hunt easy to draw units repeatedly, but I can't afford to hunt out of state regularly like that.
With that being said, I have 7 points for deer and 7 for elk. If you were in my position would you continue to build points, and if so for how long? Or is there a unit(s) that would be worth using my points right now? I have been contemplating applying for deer unit 68 3rd rifle season, or deer unit 22 3rd rife season or deer unit 501 4th rifle season.
I have no idea on hunts within my point range for elk yet figuring I would get the deer out of the way first.
I welcome any and all suggestions and/or comments.
Thank you.

Without time to scout I would be looking to draw the best 3rd or 4th season tag you can get and hoping for weather! Keep in mind this year still has really late dates for those 3rd and 4th rifle hunts and that those dates will get earlier and earlier every year for the next few years.

One thing to consider is how extreme of a hunt you want. Unit 501 can be really steep and nasty for instance where unit 22 would be a much easier hunt physically.

Are you more of an elk hunter or deer hunter? I only ask because with having both points equal you could pick a unit to hunt elk the first year, scout for a big buck while hunting elk and then come in and hunt deer the next year(or vise versa).

Any interest in the muzzy deer hunts or strictly rifle seasons? If you can do some scouting before the season and stay throughout, you might consider one of the high country units. I'm kind of in the same boat with points, yet every year I get another one thinking maybe they'll change the system.

I am an archery elk hunter first and foremost. However big muleys have become my second passion.
From what I have seen and read the best elk units are not great deer units, but I really don't know that to be fact.
I am open to trying any kind of terrain, but easier terrain is always nice. Here in north Idaho everything is steep, and thick with no parks, meadows, or openings to speak of. I hunt with my ears and nose more than anything else, and never really have the need or more importantly the opportunity to use a spotting scope. It would be nice to hunt easier more open terrain if I can.

I am open to muzzy or archery, but it would have to be a great unit/hunt with a high success rate in order for me to give up my September archery elk hunting here at home. It seems to me that the 3rd or 4th rifle deer season would be my best bet considering my limited resources and time. However I am open to any suggestions.
