Anybody got one yet? Turnin 50 this summer, those hills aren't gettin any shorter or less steep. C'mon CP&W, how bout pullin this rabbit out of yer hat for a change?!

Go thru the CP&W site like your buying a habitat stamp until you get to a "products on file" box. Youll see 400 codes in front of apps on file. When you see 500 codes in front of license on file you've drawn.

Lol! No it doesn't. My buddy drew a bull moose tag last year with I think 3+4. I wanna kick him in the nuts everytime I see him!

Nothing is showing for me, so I assume unsuccessful once again for CO mtn goat. 3+6 points now. Congrats to those that drew a tag and good luck on your hunts!

I hope you all kill wet Nannies...They displace NATIVE SHEEP. I drew a goat tag in 1987 with 3 points..Back when we could only apply for goat or sheep not both...Billies taste bad....Then when it became mathmaticly impossible for you young guys to ever draw we went to the weighted point system we have now. I drew my second goat tag in 2008 21 years apart..killed a nanny on purpose to do my part to suppress their population...nannies taste decent!.I could start The points again but choose to let you guys have your 3 percent draw odds. The only hard part about goats is the country and weather we hunt them in. The harvest locations are pretty accurate for goat on the stats page. Be careful of LIGHTNING!! good luck to all and kill NANNIES!!!!!

Tomichi.

Are you angry at us or jealous of us??
I don't understand.
You have killed two goats I your life.
That's great.
Why would you hope we "kill wet nannies"?

I also have killed a billy. In 1992.
Greatest hunt of my life.
Seven years old and tasted great.
Feed my family.

Your are correct the hardest part is the beautiful country they live in. That's what makes it a great hunt.
You have to earned it.

Yes the draw odds are ridiculous.
I feel privileged to have a second goat hunt in my mid fifties.
Unfortunately some will never have this chance.

Congrats on the tag Newhunter! I was lucky as well and drew a NR 3rd season G7 tag! I think I had 3+14 going into the draw...

He's neither. Reread his post paying particular attention to the first sentence, especially the part in all caps.

LAST EDITED ON May-05-17 AT 09:09AM (MST)[p]If I'm not mistaken, if a mtn goat wanders into Rocky Mtn Park and elsewhere they are shot by sharpshooters in Colorado! There really isn't any viable proof that mtn goats displace bighorn sheep. From what I understand there have been studies conducted but no real solid evidence. If you think about it, ringneck pheasants and other game birds are non-native. Brook, rainbow, and brown trout are also non-native trout in Colorado...has the CPW removed them? In fact, the CPW introduce non-native pheasants and trout in Colorado on an annual basis. Tominchi, do you enjoy pheasant hunting or rainbow trout fishing in Colorado? Where does the CPW draw the line?

Mtn goats often inhabit areas in Colorado that bighorns have never done well. They are certainly enjoyed by a lot of hikers, wildlife viewers, and hunters. The difficult draw odds are evidence of how desirable they are to hunt in Colorado. I'm a sheep fanatic but believe goats are just as exciting to watch, film, and hunt! If you want to see some excitement, take a look at the response of day-trippers on top of Mt. Evans when they spot mtn goats!

If you ask me mtn goats fill a great niche and prosper in the high alpine country in Colorado while just about every bighorn sheep herd in Colorado has suffered drastic die-offs. That doesn't necessarily mean to neglect bighorns but in areas where bighorns have failed mtn goats sure fill the niche nicely. As you can tell, I'm a "defender" of mtn goats in Colorado!

Forgot to mention; for those of you lucky mtn goat tag holders....have an exciting hunt! Take time and enjoy watching mtn goats in the gorgeous, high alpine country this summer!

Mt Goats are amazing, beautiful, and a trophy of a lifetime. Nothing beats a long haired Billy goat!! Full body mount that will never disappoint.

Non-res that drew a lifetime dream tag to hunt Goats in beautiful high country with my bow!! G5 2017

Any info on G5 please see my other post on this forum.

Fellow hunters 2015 goat on Utahs Beaver Mt. we showed him this goat while we were hunting deer. 9-7/8"

New hunter, taking one minute to type on my phone didn't get my point across well. I got a chance to pound a key board when I came back on.
I encourage the take of nannies. Sperm is cheap eggs are expensive. I do NOT want expanding goat populations. I also resist the stigma out there that taking a nannie makes you less of a goat hunter.
Same terrain same species the same challenge?s. I don't know of a goat DAU managed for mature trophy Mt Goat in Colo. Last time I looked at goat harvest the majority harvested were 5 years old or younger. Colo does not manage our goats for ?Trophy status? there is no ?201? We do manage for a very unique alpine opportunity with a element of danger thrown in that makes it special. Very Special! I think killing a 9-year-old nanny surpasses the take of a 5-year-old male. The later you hunt them the better the hair. The ?shag? is a trophy element also. I truly wish and feel the quality could be upped by offering the month of January to every Mt Goat Tag. An extremely hard core AT gear ski and ice ax hunt would be one hell of a self-proving ground in the mountaineering world. There are folks out there that deserve the challenge. I pushed for this in the early 2000?s?When I was young enough to play.. No issue papers came to be?.
Jims They were first introduced in Colorado in 1948. In 1993 the Commission voted to call them ?native? to Colorado. I was in the room. It was, and still is a joke. Read the (IRBY. CHAPPLE) Native Goat paper? As I recall the one ?specimen? they had ended up being from Idaho. Their paper was well refuted in 2000. (WUNDER) ?There is no evidence that Mt Goats inhabited Colorado in Historic time?.
Any way USFAWS /NPS don't support them in RMNP. ?Nonnative?
(Gross) in 2001 found that goats once established would reduce big horn sheep populations by 10 to 50 % . We all know our bighorn sheep are fragile, maybe too fragile to survive long term. We know that some sheep herds can recover from disease out breaks but can they come back if Mt Goats have ?filled the niche? in their absence?
I would not be such a OREAMNOS AMERICANUS hater if we would just follow the DAU plans as adopted.
DOW ?will manage Mt Goat Populations and distribution to limit expansion?
(Strategy) ?Through the DAU planning process establish population and distribution objectives that will minimize dispersal of Mt Goats outside of DAU boundaries?.
(Strategy) ?Mt Goats dispersing outside of Mt Goat DAU?s WILL be removed primarily through HUNTING under special regulation?.
Why are these special regulation tags not being issued? If I was one of the guys who has never killed a goat I would be pounding on the door to get a special regulation tag. Case in point there are Mt Goats in S-54 the West Elks. Outside any Goat DAU. The CPW knows they are there. There are Goats in S-22 Stewart Peak way out side any Goat DAU. The CPW knows they are there. If I was an unsuccessful Mt Goat applicant I would be screaming to add a new goat unit South of G-11 and G-12 to the boundary of G-8.
East of 135 to the boundary of G-13. This is an expanding, pioneering Goat population that should be managed like G-17. The S-13 sheep/ S-26 sheep would benefit and MT Goat hunters would get more opportunity. Who doesn't want more 500 goat codes? Let's get together for the NEW G-19 For 2018 !!
I would prefer ?special regulation tags? with a population objective of 0. But you pro goat guys are missing a great chance for increased opportunity by not putting some heat on CPW to follow their own existing regs.
Your Asia bred pheasants? Monsanto and their Round UP ready?took care of that.
Rainbows? Even introduced nonnatives can't survive long term with a spring spawn. To many irrigation
Structures that eat the fry? That's were our cut's went. Right down the ditch.. No I am now a nonnative German Brown guy.. by default,. In the 70?s Rainbows Verse Browns in My stretch of Tomichi Creek was 1 in 25 landed. Cut Throat and Brooke were represented about 1 out of 100. Have not caught a cut throat since the early 80?s no bows or brooks since the drought of 02. I don't support our ?put and take? hatchery management. I don't support gill netting (trophy) Nonnative Lake Trout to protect a very expensive put and take land locked kokanee salmon stocking program. So we can trade eggs to other states for more nonnative fishes? I would prefer my fishing $ and Dingle Johnson $ to go to some very interesting invertebrate work. They brought some stone fly /willow fly ?hellgrammites? from the Gunnison Gorge and transplanted them to the upper Gunnison. I would like to see more of that ?native? work then (put and take) stocking. Can you imagine a return of a willow fly hatch like what was drowned with the biggest sucker hole in the state? Blue Mesa.?
Any way to everyone who has a 500 code for Rocky Mt Goat. I DO hope you all kill wet nannies.

Tomichi, I agree with a lot of your points. I did not know about the Stewart Peak goats except for my recent conversation with you. Sounds like an opportunity there.

"Why are these special regulation tags not being issued?"

There are actually many of these tags issued every year, just not in your area. Last year there were 5 of them issued south of the G10 boundary in S12, and 5 goats were killed. The Commission subsequently extended the boundary of G10 to the south in January. Unfortunately, one consequence of that is that those goats will no longer be targeted with special management licenses unless they stray south of the new boundary: a de facto range expansion.

LAST EDITED ON May-08-17 AT 10:30PM (MST)[p]Thanks Oak..newhunter and any other G-13 500's. FYI our Gunnison County Commissioners have decided to pave our side of Cottonwood...it will be closed to all private travel for the paving season. Do not plan on travelling Cottonwood Pass to scout or hunt...CLOSED FOR 2017.. Any G-13 tag holders feel free to PM for cell number exchange. I have stuck a knife in alot of G-13 goats both sides of the Divide in the last 30 years.
