LAST EDITED ON May-17-17 AT 06:33AM (MST)[p]I drew a cow moose tag and thought I'd start a post for all the moose tag holders who are looking for moose hunting info from other MM members. This post can also serve to link hunters that have tags in the same unit. For example, my tag is a cow tag and if I find a good bull or even cows that I won't be hunting, I can share that info that with other tag holders.

I'll start it off, I drew a GMU 19 cow tag for the Oct 1-14 rifle season. I've never hunted 19 before so I am starting from scratch. I will also be calling CPW personnel for info and doing boots on the ground scouting prior to season.

Took a friend up 2yrs ago, he's got Parkinsons in a bad way and got a permit to shoot from the road. You won't have any trouble.

I'll give ya the road name for a few pounds of moose burger? :D

DW:

I think that can be arranged. I'll be honest, on this hunt I am not looking for a pack-in wilderness adventure. The closer I can find a tasty looking cow to the truck the better!

My daughter drew a cow tag in unit 6. Her and I both have already killed bulls in this unit, so we know the unit fairly well. She will be having a baby next month, so she will have a 3 month old baby and an almost 2 year old at the time of the hunt. My wife's going along to take care of the kids, but we will be trying to get a cow as close to the road as we can. Her husband's work schedule doesn't give him much time to be there with us, so I'm hoping we get it done while he is there with us. I will sure keep my eyes open for any bull's though.

According to the Backdoor, I have a 41,42, 421 Archery Cow tag. I know next to nothing, other than it sounds like 421 has the majority of Moose. I'd love to get some intel from anyone that hunts Grand Mesa.

Thanks!!

Gringo I would be willing to share my knowledge of 421 and the Grand Mesa. I drive over it twice a day to work and see quite a few moose in my travels. The majority of the ones I see are just above Mesa Lakes off HWY 65 but occasionally I will see some on the Cedaredge side.

Thanks DT! I'll PM you so we can connect offline. Really appreciate the assist, and hope I can return the favor

I will be spending some time up there this summer, I will let you know what i see and where, at least give you a couple places to start looking.

My current situation precludes me from caring about your opinion but go ahead and give voice to it anyway...

Cougarvan you hit the jackpot on the 28 bull tag. There are some awfully nice bulls in there if you can find them

I have a buddy that drew a cow tag in 28. We don't know the unit at all. I would greatly appreciate it if anybody could give us some info on where to start looking. Thanks in advance.

my wife has a cow tag for 52,411, & 521 , if anybody has seen moose up there please let me know we would really appreciate it. and I can let someone know if I see a bull for there tag in those units.

Gringo,

Where I have seen the most moose in 421 is in the Lake of the Woods area of Bull Creek Basin. I'm close enough i could help with a pack out job if need be.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-26-18 AT 09:44AM (MST)[p]Gringo, I drew a rifle cow tag for 41,42,421 this season. They moved the season back into November but wondering how your hunt went. Any words of advice?

I drew a Cow Moose for 7,8,191 for October rifle season. I pretty much know where I am going to spend my time scouting and taking pics.I will share info with like minded DIY Moose hunters that might need a little help for Bull or Cow.

No, too early yet. Want them to set some patterns. Probably pinpoint a 1 1/2 year old but they are trying to find a home after being kicked out by Momma earlier this year. Been taking some pics in the Park recently.Mostly elk but a few Moose and deer and Bighorns.Wind was whippin' 40-50 sustained on top, so it was tuff to get a good shot of the bighorns.Could barely get out of the vehicle and then my shirt blew over my head!!lol
