Backdoor code decyphering

Does anybody know what the heck the backdoor codes mean?

For example...my kids have a 594 code. I know that the 500 means that they drew.

Well, what does the 90 mean?

Does the 4 mean that they got the 4th choice?

I saw where somebody had a 562 Antelope code.

How do I find out?

LAST EDITED ON May-29-17 AT 09:30AM (MST)[p]As far as I understand, they're just "cost center" codes used for internal accounting purposes. The individual digits don't indicate anything in particular. I've seen a full list in the past, but don't have a link. Everyone seems to like to talk about the number, I'm not really sure why. Because the entry listed in your "Products On File" list either has the word "APP" at the end, or it does not. When the entry doesn't have the word "APP" at the end, for example "RES ELK", then you know you've received a successful license draw. I don't care what particular number is attached to it. You won't be able to tell whether it was a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc choice though, until results are posted.

The license vendors get a "Product Code Cheat Sheet" that shows all the product codes. But again they're coded as large general groups, such as "590 - Res Deer". The 590 doesn't tell you anything about GMU's or M/F or which of your 1st thru 4th draw choices you may have gotten.
