I know a lot has been said and written about the shed hunting closure in the NW part of the state this year on here. I came across this article on the Craig Daily Press website this morning about the closure and how the Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers handled it:

http://www.craigdailypress.com/news...permanent-on-northwest-colorado-public-lands/

I will let you read it and draw your own conclusions about how they handled it. To me personally, as a law abiding citizen, the way they handled it was a slap in the face. If you are caught out of season shed hunting, it should be the same penalty as hunting out of season. Perhaps a citizen petition needs to be done that will establish new strict guidelines/laws for shed hunting in Colorado.

It is bull crap and I am Livid about the article and the way it was handled! Especially as someone who supported the closure in order to help our animals!

If they make a law they enforce the law or there is no point to the law.

It is nice to know that once again the honest person who followed the law got screwed. If they were not going to enforce the law why the hell would you make another one? They need to pull their heads out of their asses and enforce the laws they already have. It is already against the law to harass wildlife and ride 4wheelers and dirt bikes off trail creating resource damage. Problem is they won't enforce it. I hope they don't make it a permanent thing because it only screws the honest person and there are already laws in place to protect wildlife if they would just enforce the laws already on the books. I for one can honestly not blame anybody in the future if they choose to join everybody else and say screw the parks and wildlife and goes out shed hunting in March or April anyways. After openly admitting they did not enforce it this year I have lost all respect for the game and fish. If they actually gave a ##### about our wildlife they would have enforced it strictly and protected our wintering wildlife.

"I think, in the first year, it was a learning process," he said. Officers explained "why we're doing what we're doing to reduce stress on animals in winter

Such leniency won't be the case in future years however, he said, as CPW is considering instituting regular annual closure dates for shed hunting to protect wildlife.

I have no problem with the way they handled it. I am a strong advocate of the shed closure, but we are changing something DRASTICALLY from what has been done for many years. I think a little "break in" period for the first year is understandable.

"If we contacted somebody twice after they had been warned," they'd issue a ticket, he said, "but typically after we had contacted people and warned them, we didn't have a problem." WOW!!!

I could be wrong, but sounds like he misspoke. I suspect he meant they got one warning, and the second time they got a ticket
