Maybe we can pool our $?

That story brings tears to my eyes. Those old ranchers are dying off fast and we will see the biggest transfer of real estate in history in the next 10 years. This is just the start.

I offered 50 million cash and she declined. All joking aside this is sad and it will probably become covered in mansions once it sells.

It's a historically iconic piece of ground with biological significance. Wonder if she'd let a 50 yr old nail bender come up and run it for room and board and partial ownership upon her passing? Beautiful piece of ground!

Truly sad, must have been a heart wrenching decision. It says a lot that she's going to donate the money! I've always said that I wish I was born a rich ranchers son, but I might change my mind if I had to make that decision.

Missed a nice buck behind their ranch 15 years ago, it looked like the tall one on their wall!

The backstory on this is even more sad. Susan had two brothers that were killed in a snowmobile/avalanch accident. If they were alive this story would have a much different ending. Susan has done a great job with the ranch since Bill & Neva passed but it come time in every life to say enough. The Nottingham's (including Susan's uncle) use to own a lot of land just West of Vail including the Beaver Creek ski area. President Ford use to land his helicopter on their landing strip when he visited Vail. They were a great family and were my friends. Susan is a stand up gal with a lot of talents as I remember her.

So if she is donating all the money to charity why not just donate the land to the Rocky mountain elk foundation and ensure it's preserved?

I did contact the RMEF. They sent the info to the land acquisition division. You never know what might happen between then and now. Maybe the RMEF can pull it off and get it at a lower cost in exchange for donation?

Contact the RMEF and let them
Know how important this land is... I have already done this...

I thought the article said something about her not liking the path of conservation organizations that is why she is selling it and not donating it.

The original premise is not so far fetched of an idea. If 1000 guys formed a corporation, and each put in $100,000? Then you put it in a conservation easement and you would get back close to half of that in tax savings. Not out of the realm of possibility. I'm in!
