Hey all, gonna head to Colorado for an O-T-C elk bow hunt. I have hunted in several areas but kinda like the North Park area. Least I think it's called the North Park area. Looking at an area east of Muddy Pass, Hwy 14 & 40. This area is in the Arapaho/Medicine Bow-Routt Forest . Some peaks in the area are Chimney Rock, Red/White side Mountain, Little Haystack Mountain. The roads are FS 103 & 700 and CR 53& 27. Anybody know this area? Roads average... good.... or bad? Just trying to figure out where to go. Been to the Grand Mesa and Uncompagahre and a few other places. Getting a little older each year and stay away from the super steep and really hard place to hunt. Thanks

Hey thanks for the comment. I am not sure what area they call it as I am not from Colorado. Hoping to hear from someone who knows the area for sure. Thanks again!!

My current situation precludes me from caring about your opinion but go ahead and give voice to it anyway...

you are referring to the pass/peaks that divide north park from middle park so I'd guess you can call it whatever you like and not be too far wrong.

VERY Heavy pressure in roaded areas, even in archery... No shortage of pressure even in the back country. Low success rates steep country HEAVY beetle kill clogging the stock trails. Rosy picture eh? Roads are good!!

I would assume based on my prior hunts that there is heavy pressure from hunters in most places on public land, opening or closing week of archery and muzzleloader too. More when lots of roads give access to an area. Also it seems like the beetle kill if fairly common in most places in northern Colorado. I have not figured out yet where there is nobody hunting and nothing but big, really big bulls everywhere. And dumb ones too. I realize the farther you get into some areas the less likely you are to bump into other hunters. But other hunters also keep the elk moving a little. A nice cow will fill my freezer some and keep me from starving or buying meat this winter. Just doing some research on where to pitch my tent for a few days.

Just picked up the lastest book on DOW propaganda overall archery is 5% Take away the guided private numbers and its dismal and dismaller

The closer to Denver the more bugles you hear, especially Saturday and sunday.

I've always found that if someone thinks other hunters keep the elk moving thereby increasing his chance of scoring there is no hope...

Tent pitching opportunities abound, however.

Hey squirrel.... thanks for your comments!! Just looking for a place to hunt, I am sure Colorado has elk. Gonna come out there and spend a week or two out in the hills. Maybe you and me will meet up... you can share my campfire for a spell. Thanks again!!
