Heading to Colorado from California in 10 days to hunt the last week of the archery season. This will be my second archery elk hunt. Hoping to tag my first archery big game animal! (I've got 2 OTC bulls in the past 6 years with rifle).
Any general advice given to a fairly new "archery" elk hunter would be appreciated.
A main question I have is the following:
While rifle hunting 2 years ago, my brother and I stumbled across a small pond about 30-40 yards in diameter. It was extremely secluded in the middle of thick cover in an area that I believe holds elk all season long. How often do elk tend to utilize water holes/ponds to water the last week of the archery season? Is it worth me sitting the water hole during this time?
