Every year i throw this offer out...

If you are in the Rifle area or anywhere North to NW and get in a pickle, need a hot shower mid eek, fill water tanks, repair a flat tire in the middle of the night, get buried in a mud hole or????

If I am around and able I will do all I can to help a guy out. I have a full shop at my disposal a comfy couch, etc.

My cell is 970-629-8922.

Good luck everyone and be safe.

This is why I enjoy this forum. Even though I don't have a tag in CO this year, thank you - hunters, no matter our individual views, need to stick together and this is a great way to do it.

Thanks elks that's a generous offer. I'm coming to hunt unit 22 for deer and know nothing about the area would you know if hunting would be better based out of rangely or rifle. I did a post with no answers and I'm waiting for call back from d.o.w.? Thanks again I'll hang on to your #

elks96,
This is and incredible act of kindness on your part.
I got cut off 3 times enroot to work this morning by butt heads that are too rude to signal. Had 2 more employees let go (one with 12 years) this week due to work reduction in our Oil & Gas industry. Thanks for the needed lift! I welcome any good news to restore my faith in my fellow man. If I see some one in distress on my pending hunt, I will remember your gesture and try and be of assistance. God Bless!

So it really would depend on where you were planning to hunt. Unit 22 is right under 1000 square miles. If you are planning to hunt from the center of the unit around the intersection of county road 5 and 24 then either Rifle or Rangely would be fine. They will both be about the same time to get into the center. If your plans are to hunt the very western edge or northern edges of the unit then Rangely would be better in terms of windshield time etc. If you were looking to hunt the eastern edge or southern areas of the unit Rifle would be better.

As far as town, Rifle is much larger. It has a Walmart, Fast Food, 4 auto part stores a ford dealership and 10+ restaurants. Fuel will be cheaper, etc. Rangely is a great little town, it is small I lived there for a while. About an hour from Rangely is Vernal which is comparable to Rifle.

I live in Rifle now and we drive everyday during the season from Rifle to hunt. It takes a little over an hour to get to our starting point in the center area o the unit. We can be to a hunting location if needed in as little as 30 minutes. Rangely you can get to a hunting spot along the river in about 30 minutes. and about the same time to get into the center of the unit.

I have hunted my entire life in 22 shoot me an PM if you have any other questions. Sadly it is not as great as it once was but it is a pretty awesome deer hunt if the everything aligns.

I really appreciate your hospitality! For some hunter a long way from home, any of what you have volunteered could be a big deal! One of the most generous offers that I've seen here. Thanks, and I hope your good deeds come back to you!

Elks96 is a great guy! He really helped me out a few years back and made my trip a blast. I have friends in Rangely too, but Elks96 helped me out so much and I had never even met him before! Best of luck man. I may be out there again next year to hunt. This year it's Utah for me.

I'm doing the same thing with a 21 3rd season deer tag. Not real familiar but staying close to Rangely (obviously). Maybe we can scare them back and forth.:) I'm hoping to get up this weekend just to get familiar with the area but I have a feeling I have honey do's instead. Fingers crossed

Incredibly generous offer and you did this last year too.

I won't be able to take advantage of your generosity, but may a crapload of good karma head your way.

From first hand experience....Rob is a good person to have saved in your cell phone if you're in his area. He helped me out last year and really made my hunt more enjoyable than it could have been. Rob is a good guy.

I drove out to unit 22 early this morning, to check it out. I looked at some nice country. I have a 3rd season tag, and would like to send you a PM, but not sure how?

Elk96, you are awesome. Most all hunters I run across are great people and what I love about hunting. That said, you go way above most. I'll be in unit 11 in a day or two for antelope and nice knowing you are around?

Elks96-- What a super great offer for fellow hunters--- my salute to you as a fine man & hunter for your offer of help to others ! I will keep your number on file for your area. Thanks so much for your kindness & generosity ! I am sitting/building on 9 Points Deer now & 12 Elk Points hoping to find a great area to apply for, maybe next year. Thinking about area 21 deer 3 rd season maybe, but have heard its way down from previous years, like lots of other units.
I hunted 22 back in the "old" days when it was still loaded. Yes-- I am old, 70 now. Bottom fell out in '73 after the big awful winter die off when deer died on piles by the thousands ! Never recovered really. Hunted the Duck Creek area near the Cathedral Bluffs.
I drew zero this year in multiple states on deer, elk, antelope-- just a bad year drawing. Ugh !

My best Wishes to you this year & every year ! I too "pay it forward" & help others whenever possible, no one gets far all alone !
