What do you guys do during the mid-day lull? Up early until a few hours after sunrise, I got that.. And a couple hours before sunset it pretty obvious too.. But what about the rest of the day? You guys sit there? eat lunch? take a nap? read a book? go back to camp?
First year hunting, but I understand that there usually isnt any action for the 8 hours between start / stop.

You'll be surprised how many animals are on the move during the middle of the day. Guys walking back to camp, or have gotten too cold, or packing meat will bump animals and get them moving. Pack a lunch, pack a book, do what it takes to stay out all day. Our seasons are fairly short no reason to cut it in half by going back to camp.

The sun is going to be moving across the sky throughout the day and the animals will get up and change positions to stay in the shade. Its usually not to far, maybe a different patch of trees nearby but I've seen them go to the other side of a canyon to stay in the shade.

I bring a book, if I have a good book I can sit out all afternoon, where the animals might be. I have never shot one in camp, yet.

Really depends on the type of country and time of year. In general I think planting your rear over some likely country and waiting/glassing, and maybe napping is better than back to camp.

Eat-sleep-glass. Repeat. Relax, slow down, and enjoy.

If warm, find a shady spot to nap. If cool, find a sunny spot to nap. If cold, walk back to truck for a nap.
