What would you do?

LAST EDITED ON Nov-22-17 AT 01:07PM (MST)[p]Ok, I am officially done playing the preference point game. I have 8 resident deer points. I don't want to waste them but I do want to have a good opportunity at a better that average buck. I would prefer 3rd or 4th season if possible, or muzzle loader. Thinking unit 63 4th season, any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

You might consider 2nd season Unit 10. I was just there for 3rd season and I killed a nice buck and really enjoyed the hunt. This year 10 of 16 residents drew 2nd season with 8 points. Not a guarantee, but a pretty good chance of drawing. I'm sure you will get a lot of suggestions, but I thought I'd throw this one out there. If you do end up drawing this tag, I'd be happy to share what I learned scouting and hunting up there. Good luck.

I would not hunt unit 10 second season for deer. I hunted it 2 years ago and hunted it hard. (I had hunted it 2 times before for deer and knew where to go.) Saw only 1 trophy buck, but couldn't get a shot. Other than that, all small bucks. Saw lots of elk everyday though. I ended up shooting a small 4x4. The population reports that the CPW puts out say that there are less than 1000 deer in unit 10 and I would agree with that estimate. The deer population has tanked as the elk population has skyrocketed in unit 10. They have a lot more elk in unit 10 than their population reports say.

I have heard both type of comments about unit 10, so I never gave it much thought. But like I say I'm not opposed to it. I just want a legitimate chance at a better than average buck, (something better than my biggest buck) If I do decide on 10 I will hit both of you up.
Thanks again.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-28-18 AT 07:42PM (MST)[p]Colelk, I have rethought my idea about going to unit 63, and my son and I are going to put in for unit 10. he has 9 points so he should be able to draw with no problem. I would appreciate any information that you are willing to share about the unit, what you saw, how many animals, your scouting trips, ect. If you want to PM me that is fine and I will give you my phone number if that would be easier.
If anyone else is willing to offer any advise I am more that willing to listen. I welcome your constructive feed back.
