A group of 3 of us guys are looking at unit 711 for 2018 2nd rifle season for mule deer. Can anyone out there please give us any tips or words of advice. We live to far away to do any scouting other than coming in a few days early to the season. Is there another unit that might be better we all have 2 points a piece and only go as a group. I'm also bringing my 10 year old son along for the experience and to see a new and awesome piece of gods creation. We don't road hunt or like wasting baby bucks so the past few hunts we didn't shoot anything. We are just good country farm boys looking for a good hunt.
 
71/711 has been a pretty tough hunt the last 3-4 years.
I used to hunt it quite a bit several years ago. The last time was 3 years ago, when I got a 26" 4x4. It was the only buck I saw that wasn't a forkie. I would also hunt unit 70 from time to time as well.
I have some buddies who hunt 71/711 every year (3rd season), and it has been getting tougher and tougher each year, and that includes access to some private land.
We typically would hunt mid to high elevations, with some guys focusing on elk as well.
Like others will say, it is not what it used to be. 7-10 years ago, 71 and 70 was a deer factory.
If you still think you might give it a go, I can PM you some areas to focus on.

Hi.. I have been thinking of Hunting Deer in 71/711 for a couple years now and really like the looks of the country on Google Earth!!... I was just wondering if you hunted it this year and if you had any success!!...
