What is the deal with outfitters in CO ? it seems they are few and far between, their websites haven't been updated in 10 years, they don't return calls and if they do they don't know much. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

I've hunted DIY my whole life I could go it alone that's not the issue, but I'm too old to get 20 deer points again I want to make the best of it . if I have to wait a few years I can do that too. I put in for a different hunt every year I'd like to make a plan at this point and get serious.

Any suggestions on who to talk to ?

Mule deer, 20 NR points, big as I can get. where depends on what I have a shot at drawing. I've been chasing 66 and 67 mostly but there seems to be no active outfitters in these units.

20 points is a lot, but I'm aware there are lots of folks with more. if I have to wait I'm willing to do that but I think it's time to start getting serious.

Lmao I also have 20 and have no idea where to put in for. I have bought several LO vouchers the last few years. I just want to hunt before I get as old as Dude. Haha

I can't help with where but I second your comments. Pain in the ass to try and find a packer in a lot of places.

It's hard to find a packer because of the way the laws are written. I'd love to pack a few animals out for a few bucks to help pay for my hunt but I can't, because I'm not a licensed outfitter.

Ocho - take note - all it takes to be an "outfitter" in Colorado is an application to DOPL, paying for and having a surety bond and insurance, and having a first aid and/or a CPR card. If they operate on USFS or BLM then there are a few additional requirements none of which involve testing or verification of hunting related skill or ability.

I think there are plenty of outfitters everywhere who fall short on skill and ability. but if it's that easy why aren't there any outfitters ? hell if I had someone who knew as much about where I draw a tag as I do about my home country I'd be happy. I just don't want to waste time stumbling around trying to figure out what gates are locked and where the deer don't hang out.

Based on the 2017 draw recaps, you should be able to draw 3rd season unit 66 with 20 NR points in your pocket and have a coin toss chance a drawing 66 4th season. I met a guy last year at the sportman's show in Denver. He had recently bought Lake City Outfitters. His name is Jamie Jones, [email protected], 1.816.769.4992. Seemed like a good guy. Not sure if he's still outfitting but might be worth a reaching out to him. I know he prefer's 3rd season over 4th, I think he said it was due to keeping his staff on board through the 4th season, and obviously the weather can get pretty nasty during a normal 4th season at elevation.

good luck

What is your budget? You could look at unit 40 on private.

Lake city was one who never returned calls, if it's a new owner I'll try again. I'm going to talk to Steve too.

I don't know anything about 40 I need to check that out.
