Son's 1st Big Game hunts

LAST EDITED ON Jan-07-18 AT 01:52PM (MST)[p]It has been a really fantastic 2017 hunting season. My son is an angel with a golden horseshoe buried in his back side. One very lucky and talented kid with successful draws for : antelope, deer and elk here in Colorado.
He has been going along on hunts since he was three. His passion for the outdoors is something else.
First - he caught a rainbow.

So, the muzzleloader was without a cap, a rookie mistake by the young rookie and he came back empty from the sweet stalk on 11 antelope to 60 yards - dejected, empty and crying.

Lesson learned. I told him about my tribulations of some past muzzleloader hunts on the drive home. Didn't help much.

Elk would be next up. The smoke pole was replaced by the trusty 30.06. Anticipation was high. It would be his third 'elk camp' trip - now finally 12 and packin heat. By 8am opening day we were packing meat.

Congrats that's awesome you are teaching him to hunt.He will have those memories the rest of his life.

Congrats to the young man! Good for him to get back on the horse after falling off! Congrats again!

I think we could all write a book about our bone-headed hunting mistakes. Especially those of us that match wits with a turkey...a bird with a brain the size of a marble!!
