ok i've got a few preference points and would like to do a 1st rifle hunt in unit 66 preferably. Would really like a trespass fee type hunt but am open to DYI or guided. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas? I'd also be open to hunting a later season as well.

thanks

will do thanks!

looks like we're going Unit 66 3rd rifle season, unguided. we have the points to draw. If anyone has any info on the unit they don't mind sharing please let me know.

I just looked at the stats. You can actually get a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd season tags with no points. With a few or even one point it's guaranteed.

My choice would be 1st rifle. It's closer to the rut and may catch the end of it. The weather will be better than 3rd season. Although it could be warm. You won't have any deer hunters either.

Something to consider anyway. What made you pick 3rd season?

well my dad and i have points but the others in the party do not - third season gave us the best chance for them to draw. We applied individually so at least some of us will be hunting this fall in Unit 66.

Ok, I understand. Let me point out something. 3rd season doesn't seem like the best pick.

These are the percentages of getting the tag with no points.

2017
1st rifle......73%
2nd rifle......96%
3rd rifle......57%

2016
1st rifle.....96%
2nd rifle.....91%
3rd rifle.....49%

2015
1st rifle.....92%
2nd rifle.....92%
3rd rifle.....56%

We are non residents....for NR the percentage for 1st rifle was zero, around 25% for 2nd and 3rd
