CO elk

Well it is near that time of year again on deciding where to hunt elk in Colorado. I am reaching out to the guys in the know on a couple of units for nr. After doing a lot of research the units narrowed down to either muzzy or early rifle that are within my 16 nr points are 49, 66, and 76(2nd rifle). I am in good shape and used to walking a lot here in Id. Guess what I am asking is which unit if any would be better for a better 300ish bull or should I wait and build points for something else. Not in a hurry and have other good bulls on the wall to keep me company. Thanks for any intel and good luck in the draw.

If I had those choices and wanted the best chance at a 300 ish bull I'd go unit 76. Unit 49 can be tough and a 300 bull is doing very well.

I'm in the same boat, but not applying this year. As far as waiting for something else, I don't think that's realistic. Since the points climb every year, these are going to be the hunts for us in this point range for the foreseeable future. We'll likely never catch up to the top areas. I'd like to do 76 sometime...

Ive found 49 to have bigger bulls than 76 actually...

Thanks for all the replies. Yes the nw units are out of my reach for waiting and costs for the return. Just wondering if the 76 first rifle is worth the extra 4-3 points from the muzzy hunt. Unit 66 shows 15pts for muzzy. A question, why does CO have the arch. hunt overlap the muzzy hunt by so much time. Seems like a disservice for both hunts. Seems like this area of points for nr will be popular for the next few years. Thanks again for your insights. Mark.
