Long story short I have 5 NR points for deer. i was going to hunt 62 2 years ago with my father in law but their house burned down and the trip got put on hold. I have decided i dont think i wanna hunt 62 this year( not opposed if thats the best i can do). So my question is with 5 nr pts what would be my best option? preferably 3 season or(4th if one of the easier to draw ones are worth it). I thought about saving up for unit 40... but idk if i wanna wait that long 2-3 more years... I really like hunting pinyon-oak brush country... im not opposed to higher but thats just my favorite. id really like the possibliity of 170+ bucks or just some nice mature bucks... i know they arent easy but as long as a unit consistently hold bucks like that or i can glass a few up and have a chance at putting a stalk on them im happy.

ive thought about unit 60 but heard thats very weather dependant...

anyway any suggestions would be great thanks!

I live in 62, and I would tell you, if you see a 170 buck, take him or be OK with eating you tag. I don't hunt the unit, but there are plenty of deer, and 160 bucks are fairly common. I see very few over 175.

I wouldn't get too caught up with "Weather dependent". I think success, no matter where, can be heavily influenced by the weather. The bucks will start to seek out Does, around the first of November no matter the weather. I saw a couple of great bucks courting Does right at the end of 2nd Season this past year.

Draw a tag, hunt hard and roll the dice.....

gringo- ya from recent reports thats why ive kind of turned away from 62, thought about 70 but heard the same... was looking at draw odds what about unit 44 early rifle Sept 9th i think..? if i hunt anything other than 3rd rifle id prob wait til next year as i have a dedicated deer tag in utah this year and will be busy hunitng that.

I have no experience with 44, early, but I'd say, like any Sept. tag, if you can scout heavily during the summer, and have some bucks patterned then it's likely the best option to kill a big buck. If scouting time is short, then you are better hunting the November hunts, and hoping for weather and some luck.
