I put up a thread on 80-81 and 79 started being part of the conversation I have like 19-20 points and really want to get a whopper...any thoughts???? I have a lot of experience hunting pronghorns and will be able to scout it hard during the summer and if I don't find Mr right have no problems turning my tag in...

Thanks....

Ted

My thoughts are if you've got so many points you can't even keep track of them maybe you should like draw something and go hunting.

Have you looked at the overall genetics in those units for very big bucks ? Have those units produced some recent B & C bucks ? I am not an expert on Colorado antelope, but it seems that Moffat County & that NW area has the majority of great genetics. Next might be Jackson County, around Walden. But a huge recent winter die off has ruined that area for a number of years. I found it does have good genetics normally , I found an 84 net B & C buck there for my wife a decade ago. I admire your looking for a huge buck ! My game too. Huge antelope bucks ! Best huge bucks usually come from Az., New Mexico, In certain counties like the Socorro area & south of Quemado too. Please send me your reply, I'm interested.

Yep...kinda ended up with these points on accident been doing some successful muzzy hunting in a no point unit killed two 15 incher back to back. I know of the die off in North Park and what I have heard is other than the the rarest exception the NW corner if you see a 15 incher you better shoot. I have taken 12-15 of those class bucks in my life and one that made BC awards. But not a real gagger...so kinda of looking for something special....

I've already given you some tips, sport. Why I bothered, I cannot imagine. If you've already taken 12-15 15" antelope, you don't need any goddamned help. GFY

Prime...not sure why you are sideways...just trying to find out how to best use my points...looked at what it takes to draw and saw 79 was more...actually most likely going to go with 80-81...but not sure yet...

I have been hunting pronghorns for like 40 years..almost every year in some sort of fashion...usually a couple states....if you do the scouting homework on them it pays off as they are super territorial...shot some nice bucks...every unit in the west has at least a few 15 inchers just most people can't stay off the trigger or don't really know what they are looking at and the first 14 incher hits the dirt....but looking for something exceptional and ended up with all the points cause I never really heard of a unit like 201 Elk or like 44 deer that are the for sure go to's if you got the points. Its lots more murky in the Pronghorn conversation...

I will have lots of points on the line and will put in the on the ground time and just want to try and narrow it down for the chances at an exceptional buck nothing more nothing less

My son and I are in the same boat as you are, we both have 19 points and can't decide what to do with them. I used to hunt North park but I also heard about the die off. MY son decided to take a shot on 2,201 and I'll go with him. I'm tempted to just get another PP till I can look into trying for a license. I haven't had any luck on RFW ranches. Anyone no anything about the Rimrock ranch down south? Adventurewriter let me know what you decide.

It sounds like you are familiar with hunting trophy antelope throughout the West. You've probably already researched Colo and noticed there aren't many counties that produce B&C (especially recently). The NW corner has been hammered the past 15ish years with harsh drought plus winterkill. Antelope numbers once you leave a 10 mile radius of Craig are extremely low. North Park is in a similar situation from winterkill...and numbers are extremely low.

It sounds like you are interested in a huge buck...possibly over 82". I'm a trophy antelope hunting nut that lives in Colo and I hardly ever hunt my own state! My son drew a North Park tag last year. After what I saw and heard we turned in his tag. I've been waiting quite a few years for antelope quality to improve....but it may be a while! 82" bucks are pretty much non-existent but if you spend time and boot leather you may luck out. Eastmans made a video of a hunt several years ago in SE Colo where he shot a whopper on private land. The auction tag archery hunters usually end up with 80ish" bucks and they have the ability to hunt super long seasons throughout the entire state. Good luck in your quest!

Just got back from "trying" to Hunt Barb Sheep in NM OTC....we got really good at looking at rocks...the more time I spend in NM the more I think their game commission has rocks for brains..they look at Oryx...Ibex and Barb Sheep as nuisances to barely be tolerated when there is some much "blank" land in NM where they could thrive properly managed....incredible hunting opportunity and $$$$$ for a cash starved state.....but I digress...anyways.

Still up in the air on this and if I am going to pull the cord on any unit...kind of waffling back and forth....
