CPAW Director's Comment for June Meeting

Folks that got in this year will be shocked on what that point cost you in 3 years. It will be just like other states. A bunch will bail once the bait and switch has been implemented.

Pretty sad what it has become nowadays. I have 9 points and I'm pretty sure I'm done after I draw out.

Wow... I still shake my head in disbelief how people swallowed this entire CPW fee BS hook line and sinker.Their is allot of ignorant people in this state. Dam shame...

"The commission can now charge up to $100 for a preference point fee per species."

Wow!!!

They're short sighted.

Every other state gets more than the application fee if they grant preference points, it is just the current order of things. There are a couple exceptions that I'm not going to disclose because I don't want more competition there.
Personally I would pay more for the privilege of hunting, or preference points, so by all means, walk away if you'd like, and I will hunt more often. If you want cheap meat, go to the grocery store.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-01-18 AT 01:33PM (MST)[p]Nobody minds paying their fair share, but we get nickel and dimed to death. By government taxes, and more and more hunting related costs/taxes. That is what all this is: more taxes! They already go up on our license fees every year (NRs) and now we are going to be charged here and there more and more and more.

And yes, I can afford to "pay to play" whatever the cost, but I have friends that are being forced to bow out because it becomes just too much overall. So if you like the fact that it is becoming a rich man only sport, then you are in for some great times! Hope all your friends don't have limited resources. You will still see me though for the foreseeable future....

And by the way, due to the new "no fees up front" scheme, you will actually have more competition for points and drawing tags. So your odds of drawing "that tag" just got worse

I don't complain about taxes and fees as it pertains to hunting. I don't even complain about taxes in general, but if I did, I would direct it towards stupid wastes of money that won't work, and not towards something with potential to benefit me, like a better funded state game agency.

Funny how EVERY government agency, whether it is Washington or a state game agency always needs more. And because they can increase their tax on us, they can always get more.

And this new initiative has the potential of increasing our taxes a lot. Not a whole lot in any one place, but all together, more and more each year.

Increasing license fees basically every year, habitat fee, OHV fees, application fee, preference point fee, buy a license to apply fee..........

You got that right txhunter58. This state will fee you to death as we proceed forward. Oddly we see less habitat improvement, less field services, representation, biologist, wardens, no increases in services or opportunities. But yet continued growth for new offices, conference rooms, new hires in metro offices, polticial process beurocracy, studies, studies, studies that end up on a shelf. It seems the best way to do fish and wildlife work is from a desk and area covered in roof tops and asphalt with smog filled air. If the actual dollars would be put to beneficial use I'd be all over the increases but o have seen how the Colorado system works.

If the money goes toward habitat and increasing populations and fighting people who want to ban hunting I am all for it. Keep the money transparent.
