We will be hunting units 75/751 this fall for mule deer and elk. Does anybody have an idea how the wildfires are affecting these areas right now?

USFS just closed the entire San Juan National Forest unitl ?conditions improve?. You had better be doing a rain dance. I know I am.

We NEED the storm now in the Sea of Cortez to kick moisture up here bad! If we dont get rain soon we are going to lose Sage Brush here in the Gunnison Basin. The humidity in our fuels is the lowest recorded. We had a lawn mower start the yellow grass on top of STANDING WATER at the Pioneer Museum this week...our winter range is looking at a near 0 growth season here in 2018.. im doing water changes in my hay meadow I havent done since Dad dreamed them up in 1977. This is real guys.

Ive always used inciweb with good results.

Was hoping to come out to Durango area and start scouting for future retirement home. Wishing you guys the best out there...

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-18 AT 07:49PM (MST)[p]Just came from there. The area is receiving some monsoonal rains now (every afternoon) but the amounts have not be sufficient to put out the fire. It is considered 50% contained at this point, but currently the fire is not advancing due to the showers and higher humidity.

The best place I have found for information is on facebook. Do a search for "416 fire" They are stopping reports on facebook starting tomorrow and transferring it back to the forest service.

Continued daily rains for at least the next week looks good for stopping the advance of the fire. But if you had planned on hunting up Hermosa creek you are probably SOL. Doubt they will allow access to that area this fall due to flooding and mudslide risks. All of the 416 fire impact have been in unit 74.

The San Juan Forest remains open in many areas, but I was going to scout some drainages between Dolores and Telluride to the east of the highway 145 but over the ridge from the fire and all of the access points were closed.
