Unit 11, 211

I drew a 3rd season deer tag for this unit. Looking for helpful advice on what to expect in regards to buck size. What should my expectations be going into this hunt?

Really a weather dependent unit IMO. Worse the weather the better the hunt. You'll have lots of company too but hey your out there hunting and that's what matters. The resident herd isn't the biggest but they are around in decent numbers just takes more looking.

saddling up anyway."

Tailchasers,
If the weather is snowy, what unit are the deer migrating out of as they head into unit 11? Maybe unit 22? Just trying to figure out where to catch the migration if the weather is bad.

I believe they migrate east to west mostly. I think CPW has a map showing migration routes.

Still looking for suggestions on what to expect for buck quality? Anyone out there hunt this unit that is willing to share some experience for the unit? What about good camping places? Road conditions? Should I bring an atv? With as many tags for the unit, someone out there must have some helpful info they'd be willing to share.

Shootem - Most of my research on this unit has been on line as I put in for this unit as well but was not lucky enough to draw. (spent some time on a few sites noting areas to hunt during the 3rd season huntscore/toprut to name a few). You might want to do some research on those sites. I am interested to see how your hunt goes as I will probably draw next year.

Thats a good question to ask and not as easy an answer these days.

There will be bucks but not sure of the quality, there always used to be a smoker or 2 but dont know lately.
The deer will be migrating out of units 12 and 13 to the east.
Duffy Mountain and Axial basin are the main hunting areas in the unit. You could try the isolated blm parcels away from the crowds and possibly do better especially if you can hike. The unit runs all the way to Meeker so there is quite a bit of land to try.
Patience and persistence is the key.
Get a blm map, gps unit
I would like to get a report of your experience and what you saw on the landscape when it is over if you dont mind
thanks

Hunted the unit in 2015 2nd season with my son.. he took his first buck a respectable 3 point we got into bucks every time we got away from the roads.. there is a big burn in the middle of unit 11 if you are willing to pack them out on your back with your head lamp on then you will have a great hunt as for size all of the western units have some huge bucks but a solid 150 160 should be doable

I spend time in this unit every other year. Some years we see some dandy bucks, others it is thin, but no doubt they are there. Last year, two nights before the opener we were out scouting and happened to glass up a dandy 190+ typical buck that was bedded up. I would think a 150 buck is more typical of what you will find in this unit. There are some giants though. Hope for weather!
