Water holes

I've been archery hunting for a good while in remotely the same area every year. I know of a watering hole that is on public land that some men have basically claimed and I know of no one else but myself who has even really hunted it do to these gentle man being rather rude and harassing if anyone tries using it. Just curious as to if anyone has dealt with this situation before and how they went about it? I know I can sit there for days on end because it's public but they have said they would just sit there with me and spook everything away.

Personally, one of the main reasons I fell in love with hunting way back was the alone time enjoying nature. Running into decent folks in the wild while hunting is kind of tolerable, but the last thing I want to deal with are jerks, especially jerk-hunters. Soooo, i'd probably just give up to their aggression and move onto where I can find some solitude (similar to the big game).

With that said, if this water hole is that important, you could try to avoid those folks and just stay upwind of the water hole. It's archery, so you could be very stealthy about it, and keep enough distance that they are not aware of your presence. The big game won't be coming in downwind of them, anyway. It does take away some of the concentrating effect out of the water hole, but depending on terrain, that might be an option. Certainly, for me at least, hanging out at a water hole with stubborn jerks while trying to enjoy nature and have a successful hunt...i'd rather stay home, or find a new area altogether.

Good luck.

Better yet, take a big dump where they normally setup.Eat lots of corn and peanuts the day before to get the full effect.

Wouldn't run me off unless they point a gun at me, and then I would video them and turn them in. Why let an ##### get away with something like that. Or you could ease by there and if they aren't there, sit down. If they run you off leave singing at the top of your lungs.

This is on page 14 of your Big Game Brochure. You have the law on your side it sounds like they are already breaking this law by harassing and threatening you. Call CPW you have rights.

IT IS ALSO AGAINST THE LAW TO:

21. Interfere with hunters. This includes distracting or frightening prey; causing
prey to flee by using light or noise; chasing prey on foot or by vehicle;
throwing objects; making movements; harassing hunters by using threats
or actions; erecting barriers to deny access to hunting areas; intentionally
injecting yourself into the line of fire. Violators face prosecution and may
have to pay victim?s damages and court costs.

Get it on tape, turn it into the warden. Obvious case of harassment. Perhaps it is wise to turn the other check and hunt elsewhere, but I don't take it very well when someone threatens me or my legal hunt experience.

Good Luck

Just hunt and piss on them guys. It's public land. Pebble in a valve stem or 2 couldn't hurt either.

saddling up anyway."

I have spoken to the guys before that use the watering hole and at first they seem like nice guys, then they basically told me that they would just sit by me and shoot their pistols in the air every hour until dark as long as i was there. I dont really believe after a while that they would do it but at the same time they told me stories of how they "sabotaged" the stand to fall whenever someone when on it after a little while and that i believed so...I dont want to really get law involved. Think i will just go there opening morning and if no ones there i will sit there, if they show up i will point out the obvious that its BLM land, and if they have a problem with it we will go from there.

If you do have conflict with them again, you might want to hide a trail camera that is watching your truck. Never know, they might try to mess up your stuff so you can't get back up the mountain.

Really sad that it has come to this.

I say why bother w these a**holes?! I know you' ve got the right to be there, too... but i've been frustrated on public land and find it best to put some miles between yourself and the punks.
If you stick around, you'll probably think about the possible confrontation the whole time and ruin your headspace. You don't want this to be the story of your 2018 season.
A huge dump in the stand(?) or whatever they' re using is a great idea. Save it up ...

I agree. Move up wind and shoot the elk before they get to the water hole.

Get a Game warden to come undercover with ya dressed just like a hunter, Let him get the treatment and see where it go's from there.
Me I wouldn't leave that is stupid to let them decide where I hunt.
Bullies will always flock together, They like seeing the weak run away.
Take out the leader and they fold like a deck of cards.
once you start down that road(giving in to them) it hard to stop running from life's problems.
