Hoping for no big upcoming winter losses in these units, I am considering a try for a 3rd season rifle deer license in one of these units in 2019. I only have 10 points Resident so likely will not draw even a 3 rd season tag, I know 4 th season is out of range,. These 2 units seem like a decent choice for a trophy buck 180 plus with of course a lot of luck too.
Have any of you had recent experiences with these 2 units & any advice on hunting them ? My plan would be a camp with Travel Trailer in southern part of one of the units. Which unit might be the better unit & why too ? I've never hunted either unit. I hunted 551 before the big die off in '07/'08 & never saw a 180 plus buck so ate that tag. I normally get to a unit a week ahead of opening & scout/recon it hard before season opener. I've read some reports a time back of hunters opting to stay in Lake City Motels to hunt out of them. Does that sound correct for some hunters ?
